In the Arthur Wait for the match. On the pitch at the end. At some point returned to our place in Cross Road.

A night to remember.

Standing in my usual position in the Holmesdale, just below and to the left of the middle. On the pitch afterwards.

Arrived around 6pm and was squished half way up the Holmesdale towards the Old Stand. No promotion since has come close to it.

I was there, in the AW with my late dad. Halfway line almost exactly where my seat is currently

Was some distance away after each goal though!

I was present.

Got to the ground ridiculously early .... about 6 if I recall ... and the place was packed.

My mates and I managed to squeeze in the top section of the Whitehorse.

Did I dream it or were there a dozen or so Sunderland fans escorted around the pitch at some point?.

holmesdale behind the goal three quarters way back. I had a banner with a bamboo pole. It snapped in the crush. We were so lucky there was no real disaster in that crush. I was 17 and my feet lost contact with the terrace for several seconds at a time.
Best memory was watching walsh flying horizontal to head a goal at the whitehorse end
Big beers in the Alliance and the Albert afterwards- then a walk across the sewage farm home

1978/79 was my first season where I watched every match home and away (I had been a regular at Palace since the 1974/75 season) and had just turned 16 so was also on the verge if leaving school too.

I always used to stand directly behind the Palace dug out in the Old Stand, it was made of solid concrete until that night, but I remember after the game, the amount of people swarming on to the pitch at full time meant that loads got to stand on the dug out, which collapsed, but apparently nobody was hurt, which was a miracle considering that would have been four huge slabs falling in on thenselves!

I’ve got a cutting from the old Croydon Advertiser, which says over 21,000 were in the Holmesdale alone, we know for sure there well over 52,000 in the ground as hundreds rushed the gate at the corner of Holmesdale Road and Park Road.

Apparently, from various reports there would have been fans from various other clubs probably a couple of hundred from Burnley who had finished safely in mid table, but of course a draw would have handed the title to Brighton and a defeat would have meant promotion for Sunderland instead of Stoke who were in 3rd and 4th place with Palace actually in 5th before the match started!

It would have been interesting to see how those celebrations would have played out had the result been different!

Liverpool clinched the First Division Title three days before on the Tuesday, the gate at Anfield was a mere 50,750!

Sadly, I cannot claim to have been in attendance for that game..... But I was one of the 3,774 Club for the infamous game against Carlisle Utd on the 1st Feb 1986...........

Straight from school about 3.30 and in the ground very early. 11 years old and went on the bus with my mate and his dad met us over there. (God you would never do that nowadays!!) We were at the front in the Arthur standing enclosure and got well and truly crushed during the celebrations for both goals and subsequent pitch invasions. Still loved every minute of it though and it was the best night of my life at the time.

AW with my Dad. Right at the front, asked my Dad if I could run on at the end, he just said 'go for it, but not too far in'. A brilliant evening, unbeatable atmosphere and feeling.

I remember one of my Dad's friends, giving us a lift back in his van, then after I had been dropped home, they went off drinking and they fell out of whatever pub which they were drinking in, the next morning

Holmesdale, got down as far as the right hand floodlight, couldn't get any nearer to the pitch due to the crush, never seen a terrace so rammed. (Except maybe Orient away)

I was fifteen. Usually went in the Whitehorse but was in the middle of a crushed Holmesdale for this. When Ian Walsh scored I jumped up and didn't touch the terrace again for about ten minutes.

Whitehorse Lane. Very left hand side by main stand. Climbed onto side wall and hung on to railings. Had brilliant view from about 10 feet up of Walsh and Swindlehurst goals!!

On the pitch after too!

In the Holmesdale with my brother and cousins - ran on the pitch at the end and my brothers belt broke and he fell down with his trousers at his ankles

A memory I will take to the grave
