Gregg Berhalter
Always rated him, anyone know what team he went to and how he's getting on?

I watched the German Bundesliga review on Sky sports a couple of weeks ago and i remember seeing him in the starting line-up for Cottbus, he hasn't been frozen out completely

I did too. I could never understand why he didn't make it. Everytime I saw him play he did well. Was I missing something? |

I never rated him: I don't think he gave us any reason to put him in the first team. He would have been ok as an Austin-style back up player, but when you compare him to the back three we have now, he's just too weak. Fair play to him though, he did impress during the world cup, but TF was definitely within his rights to get shot of him, especially since we got some money for him. It was a poor decision to give him a contract in the first place: it was done when we had no manager.

Never really felt comfortable with him playing. I think his performances for the USA swung the tide of opinion in his favour but to my mind, apart from the obvious 2 games he never really did it for me. And as TommyEagle says, if he'd stayed he'd still not be playing.

Yes the fact he was cr@p. Had a good spell for "those 2 wonderful games" under Kember but looked shaky, too lightweight and dodgy otherwise despite a nice left peg HEard he played well in the World Cup though |

But if one gets injured who do with have to replace them? Only a youngster with little first team knowledge. Gregg could also play left-back as well.

Gregg's started about half of Cottbus' matches so far in the Bundesliga. They've been rotating their back line, and he's right in the mix.
(I've got no clue why they're rotating their back four, it's not as if they're in a lot of competitions right now, and it's probably one of the reasons they're bottom of the Bundesliga.)

In case anyone cares, this is a recent report from an American site, soccertimes.com:
In the German Bundesliga, Energie Cottbus climbed out of last place, led by Berhalter's solid play at center back in a 3-0 shocker over Hannover 96. The defense made the difference until Cottbus recorded three goals in the final 16 minutes. Berhalter has earned praise in the German media with his play since the winter break and has become the focal point of the Cottbus defense that is central to the club's recent success. |

Berhalter is a rock in the starting line-up for them. And they are on a bit of a run since the winter break as well...

Never ceases t amaze me how all the "experts" come out of the woodwok to decry a player once he leaves the club. Berhalter would be handy right now with our continuing injury problems. And, whilst it may only be the US (who didnt have a bad world cup) he is still good enough to make it into the international team, so all these comments like "crap" etc. are at the very least incredibly naive.

May only be the US....incredibly naive.
Either you just did the same things yourselves or I am looking too far into your 'only the US' quote...

Don't take it so seriously. What i meant is whilst he's not brazilian, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, French or Portugese, he's still a valuable member of an international set up. I also mentioned that the US did really well in the last world cup. What more did you want me to say?

.... and also before one joins. Remember the howls of derision when there were rumours of James Beattie joining? Not being an expert I wouldn't like to say if he's much good or not, but his record recently suggests he might have come in handy.
