Sam Hammam's Vision Of Cardiff !
Whilst reading the Cardiff programme on the way back last night I noticed a very strange insert in the middle.
Basically it's all written by new owner (or guvernor as it says in the programme - what does that mean in football terms anyway !!??) Sam Hammam and it outlines his view of his new toy and what it should become. It makes interesting reading and I'm certainly glad he DIDN'T buy Palace if this is the sort of thing he has in mind. Basically to sum up the main points .... He thinks they have a 1 in 1,000 chance of getting to the premier league in the next twenty years, but insolvency or bankruptcy is more likely. They are losing 1 million a year. He will invest 3 million in the club and NO more - only 500k will be given to the manager to spend on players. They have budgeted that they need crowds of 7,000 to stop the losses and reverse the trend. They need a squad of 16 international quality players (and how are they going to find those with 500k ?) - plus 8 more on top. And here come the interesting bits .... He wants to .... Change the name of the club Changed the colours they wear Change the nickname of the club Change the club badge And turn them into a team that the whole of Wales will support ! He is particularly scathing about Swansea (yeah I'm sure that fuelling the fire will REALLY help things) saying that they know they aren't a big club and their supporters should all support Cardiff, as that's the only club capable of realising the Welsh dream of having a club that can compete in the premier league ! He suggests changing the name to Welsh Cardiff City or something that has "dragons" or "Cymru" or "Celtic" in the title ! He suggests also playing in white, red and green. I don't think any of this has a hope in hell of succeeding and will properly only stir up more trouble between Wrexham, Swansea and Cardiff if anything !! Anyone see any Man U parallel's here ! Aren't you glad he never got hold of Palace after reading that - I feel that I am now !
