Hull in Trouble
Hull teeter on brink of extinction
By John Drayton Hull City's clash against Cheltenham Town tomorrow could be the troubled club's final game. The collapse of two rescue deals leaves Hull facing closure unless chairman Nick Buchanan staves off a winding-up order. Assistant manager Kevan Smith believes he will be out of a job, along with fellow assistant Dave Moore and team boss Brian Little, if money is not found to pay off crippling debts. The Third Division club are in the High Court next Wednesday as Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue press for the payment of up to £500,000. Other outstanding debts could amount to as much as £1.5million. The players and management team are owed unpaid salary. Smith said: 'There is a possibility the game against Cheltenham could be our last. We have told the players to go out and do their best, so if it is our final game we go out with a bang. 'We know the chairman is working very hard. If the administrators are brought in, I expect Brian, Dave and I will be the first ones to go.' Looks like Administration rears it's ugly head again. Let's give Hull our support in these difficult times. We all know how it feels. |

Does anyone know if they have any sort of supporters trust up and running ?
Are they looking for financial support from fans of other clubs - can we help in that sense ? |

Slightly off-topic, but I heard that Lincoln City are in bad trouble as well, and that the fans are aiming to make it the first 100% community owned club in the country - pretty much like the Trust was aiming to do last year.

I think we should all be looking to help Hull out. I now how generous away fans were in giving money to us when we were in trouble, and i wouldn't want any to have to go through what we have in the last couple of years

From BBC Sports
Wednesday, 7 February, 2001, 12:44 GMT Little's future is in doubt Hull placed in administration The future of Hull City looked bleak on Wednesday after the Third Division club were put into administration. The Tigers were in the High Court facing a winding-up order brought by Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue for an outstanding £500,000 VAT bill. Hull are also believed to have debts of £1m and the appointment of administrators could result in the departure of a large number of staff, including manager Brian Little. The decision follows a number of years of financial problems for the club as well as wranglings the day prior to the court appearance. Former chairman David Lloyd locked the club out of Boothferry Park, sparking fears that Saturday's home game against Leyton Orient would have to be postponed. That threat was eased slightly by the news that Grimsby were willing to allow Hull to play the match at Blundell Park instead. "Someone who is a leading light in Hull and who has an association with Hull City phoned me asking about the possibility of playing at Blundell Park on Saturday," said Grimsby vice-chairman Brian Huxford. "I have no problem with them playing at our ground and I would be happy to help them out as I would hope that if anything like this happened to us they would do the same. "I said both clubs would have to come to some arrangements before the game went ahead and so far I have not heard anything back." |

This is a mail from a Hull fan that I know: "David Lloyd is awaiting more than just a cheque. He is awaiting a good kicking, for the state of Hull City. For anybody who is unaware, Hull City were placed into administration today, to stop the club being wound up. We now have 14 days to sell the club, or else the administrator's say there is simply no money to keep the club alive after that. The players/staff haven't been paid for 5 weeks, and on Wednesday, they all become free agents if they aren't paid, and we ares still locked out of the ground, that David Lloyd owns, and Saturday's game is in doubt, if we can't get back in. The Tigers Co-operative Ltd is a scheme run by the fans, that is desperately trying to raise enough money to gain a majority share in the club, by requesting memberships at 15 English pounds. If anyone is moved enough by this sob story to join the Tigers Co-operative, then drop Simon Edmond (Tiger-Chat midfield maestro) a line at : simon@ewokvillage2000.karoo.co.uk If anyone wishes to pass this onto their respective lists then feel free." |
