Something certainly had to be done about the Open Day as it was getting very stale. It might be a bit better with kids, but the inside areas of the ground don't change that much, so we don't need to see those every year and you could play a tape of last years interviews and probably nobody would notice.

I think we need to see how it's structured before we knock it. There can still be all the stuff in the car park, we can still wander round the inside of the ground until about 1.00 if you want to, and the stalls and shop won't be limited to 6 hours like a Sunday. The only catch I can see is clearing the ground in order to let the ticket holders in, but that shouldn't be impossible. If it doesn't work then hopefully they will try yet another option or go back to the "tried and trusted" next year, but it has to be worth a try.

I also can't see Chelsea supporters, even from Croydon, wasting good pre-match drinking time to wander round Palace's Open Day

It only dawned on me this morning how big the game now is, what with Chelsea splashing cash! You can spend the morning doing all the Palace stuff, autographs, ground tour, Club Shop, and then see a good game in the afternoon.

Should be a top day!!

I have my ticket. After suffering summer withdrawal symptoms I cant wait to get back to Selhurst for a match, even if it is only a friendly! My 36th season and yes, I have the usual optimism just starting to appear.

I don't want to see Chelsea shirts in Croydon at the best of times, let alone at Selhurst Park on OUR day.

Bad move Simon.

I can understand if you've got kids, but if there's more Chelscum there than Palace it's going to be a sad day.

We might as well go and show Chelscum that it's OUR home game.

Honestly, how many Chelsea fans will go to a friendly against us??? And who would want to cause trouble?

I can't believe there's all this fuss.

Me neither as 90% of Chelski fans come from South London/Surrey ect they are probably mates with a lot of Palace so wouldn't be inclined to start anything.

Still glory hunting tosspots though.

For sure i'll be there. Could be interesting who plays for both teams by then. Do you think the Russkie owner will sit in the Arthur Waite with the rest of the Chelski fans?

Not sure about this one. I agree that the open day should have been kept separate, and home matches against Chelsea have been intimidating affairs in the past. Unfortunately, I think at least 50% of the crowd could be Chelsea fans. They can't get in Stamford Bridge, and they're signing all these players - I think a lot of Chelsea fans will make the effort to come to the game.

On the other hand, it would be exciting to see Palace against a team of big stars. I wonder how we'll get on?

I wonder. We didn't really play well against a Liverpool or Leeds team of stars last season did we?! We will more than hold our own! I'm sure of that.

Open Day + Chelsea, it seemed like a good day out till I read this thread, which then got me all worried that no-one was going to turn up to our annual open day due to the fact we were going to be having a friendly against chelsea. come on, people, it's our open day, isn't it, from 10 am on. the chelsea game, i'm sure, will be just a showcase thing, like all these friendly pre-season games. lighten up everyone, see ya' at the Palace. and PSV. and Luton away ( I know, I said I'd never ever go to an away friendly ever again after Bournemouth last year, but, hey, you can't resist the lure of Luton now, can you).

I fu*king hate Chelsea, Croydon/Surrey Chelsea are the worst!

Sadly I cannot make the Chelski game cos I'm on holiday although I am going to the PSV game.

I'm NOT going. A 10.00 a.m. start is no use to me, I'd have to leave at 7.00 a.m.

I usually turn up around 1.30 and spend about 3 hours there. So that time is taken up largely by the match now.

So that's another adult and child not going because of the change of plans

I will be going to PSV though as I've got freebies

Will miss the "local" games that we had last year - Cheltenham & Swansea - much more fun than watching us chase the ball around for ninety minutes!

Will Chelsea put any sort of a team out? I understand that they are only back from a Far East tour a couple of days before.
