Eagles appoint Bryan Robson!

The Super Eagles that is:

Quote:
Former Middlesbrough manager Bryan Robson has been appointed as the new coach of Nigeria.
The 46-year old has spent a couple of years away from football management after leaving The Riverside Stadium in 2001.

He has been linked with a number of positions in the last couple of years, including the manager's jobs at Crystal Palace and West Ham United but now has the task of trying to guide The Super Eagles to the World Cup in 2006.

Robson has beaten off competition from Frenchman Alain Giresse and former Mali coach Henri Kasperczak to take the reins.

Former Croatia coach Miroslav Blazevic had recently thrown his hat into the ring but Manchester United legend Robson has landed the post. His first task will be to coach his side in the African Cup of Nations, which takes place in Tunisia in January.

Nigeria's last foreign manager was Dutchman Jo Bonfrere, who was sacked in 2001 after a series of poor results.

What a coup for Nigeria. Rejected by every club in the English league (and probably every league in Europe).

I'm convinced that an Afican team will win the world cup by the year 4000.

All we need now is for Nigeria to appoint Terry Venables to 'help out' Robson and Glenda as his assistant. Then Emile Heskey to declare his Nigerian roots and English football will be safe.

What the hell is Robson going to do when confronted with a team of African flair players? Drop the lot and start rooting around in Div 3 for any English plodder with a Nigerian ancestor.

Or draft in the likes of Efan Ekoku or the comedy double act known as "The Two Ades" as the devastating strikeforce, ignoring the likes of Agihowa, Martins and Yacubi. In case you are wondering, "The Two Ades" are Ade Akinbiyi & and Dele Adebola and they are a comedy double act because their misses star in many sports blooper videos. In fact, their catchphrase is "And it's a bad miss form me, and it's a terrible miss by him." Or Robbo could scour the leagues for over 30s players, which he loved to do at Boro. Shame John Salako and Fash have already played for England otherwise Robbo would have 'em back in a flash.

Bit harsh. Robson bought Juninho, Emerson and Ravenelli in at Boro...

And managed to get relegated. It will be interesting to see how he deals with the Premiership managers who won't be happy about their players trotting off to the African Nations cup.
