Lifeline Money for Players

I was just wondering what players we signed with lifeline money. I know we sign Anton Ostwaki(sorry about the bad spelling) from Millwall, and Mark Bright. Anyother significant players?

Anton - 19,000
Marky - 75,000
Gary O'Reilly - 40,000
Geoff - 50,000
Anthea - 75,000
David Burke - 78,000
Geoff Hopkins - 240,000
Eddie - 200,000
Pembo - 125,000
Super Al - 7,000
Perry - 100,000

Pennyfather was bought with the proceeds of the Andy Gray sale.

It also meant we could afford to turn down a 450,000 bid from Dave Basset's Watford for our no 10 (I forget his name, but I seem to remember hearing that he had aids and couldn't get rid of it - not to mention having trouble locating his certificate of birth)

What about Alan Irvine, tricky right winger, now Moyes assistant at Everton?

He was bought in 1984 as Vince's replacement.

He was sold to Dundee Utd to be replaced by Anthea.

Kevin Taylor was sold to Scunthorpe a couple of months into the 87-88 season, but his replacement (Geoff) was already in place.

Steve Ketteridge was sold to Orient around the same time.

So just less than £300k to bring in half the team that played in that Villa Park semi, and the Cup Final itself. Amazing

Oh yeah - d'oh.

The most expensive in that list was Jeff Hopkins - and he was only that much because we got stitched up by the old transfer tribunal.

I won a clock radio that still wakes me up in the morning, and acouple of other small wins. But they were eclipsed by a week in Uncle Rons villa on La Manga. Flights and car hire included.

Won a few £25 club shop vouchers, £100 cash and a week's holiday in the Isle of Wight. The £100 cash win was cool as I had only just taken out a second membership for £104 (?) in order to jump the queue for a second cup final ticket for my lad and within a month or two had won it all back!

Lifeline was a bit before my time as I was only a kid then, but I still did my bit to help the club's coffers by flogging that shitty Palace News rag for 50p a time. Looking at that list of players, it is absolutely amazing that by fans chucking in £2 per week, we were able to buy players who would go on to be the spine of a team which finished third in the old div 1 some 4/5 years later.

If we were to relaunch it again, 2500 fans chucking in £10 per week for a year, would possibly get one league one player "for the future".
