Gordon Dickie
Hello caretakers of Palace history,
I am a journalist based in Los Angeles doing some research for a possible profile of an executive based out here. His name is Gordon Dickie. During a chat we had, he let it slip that he had played for Palace when we was younger. Judging from his age, that era would likely have been in the '70s. Does anybody have any information about Dickie? What position did he play? Was he any good? Did he ride the bench? Did he have any playing characteristics that defined him? Does anyone have photos of him in his playing days? Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mark Los Angeles, CA, USA |

Sorry mate, he never made the first team and I don't recall his name from the reserves either.

There is no mention in any of the yearbooks I have of anyone by that name ever playing in the first team. Could have been a youth or reserve team player I guess, that never made it.

Certainly not in the seventies according to my old programmes, I wonder if he was a member of our amateur side that used to play in the late 60's.

Wow. Such sudden responses. Thanks very much. I'll have to press Mr Dickie to find more details to this yarn.
A couple other lines of thought: If he said "I played for Palace," is there any other "Palace" he possibly could have played for besides CPFC, perhaps in Scotland if not in England? I lived in London for a year, and the only "Palace" that I knew of was CPFC. He also said he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the now-defunct NASL, but I cannot find any records for that team to check against. Again, thanks for your help. Mark Los Angeles, CA USA |

Perhaps he actually said "I played around at the Palace". Try asking Prince Charles for more info ![]() Quote:
Steve Kember also played for them as well as Palace so it may be worth asking him. There's someone on here who usually does the night shift who may be able to help you with that line of enquiry.

Re: Gordon Dickie
Hi Mark. Must have misled you. I have had calls from my playing friends ,however, just to say hi. Please call to discuss further. Once again apologize for misleading you. I did play with the lads in Vancouver and at Palace but never for the respective clubs.Never good enough . Gordon

This has to be one of the strangest threads ever.
Two Americans with no particular interest in our club using our board to converse with eachother, even though they appear to meet anyway. Not that you're not welcome guys! So Mark - have you got anything to say in reply to Gordon? |

Wonder if he (Gordon) knows Steve Kember through the Vancouver White Caps connection?

gordon dickie
To put everybody out of there misery I can confirm that Mister Gordon Dickie is a close friend of Steve Kember who he met in Vancouver whilst Steve was playing there . Steve was Gordon's best man at his wedding in LA and they keep in contact on a regular basis. Gordon can kick a football as well to a fairly reasonable standard .

Didnt MI5 and the CIA used to put strange notices in the papers to set certain events into action. Maybe they have now moved on to bulletin boards.
