It would be cheaper to spend about £5 on a CD lens cleaner, which would probably fix the problem.

That's: it wud b cheepa 2spend bout fiva on cdlens cleana wich wud prolly fix da problem

Yes, so try using a CD lens cleaner.

A CD lens cleaner is something you use to clean the lens of a CD player, DVD player, Playstation or suchlike (the lens is the gizmo that reads the CD/DVD). It comes in the form of a CD, but with special micro-fibre brushes which clean the lens. You can buy one of these at any Dixons/Comet/PC World type place, for between £5 and £10. I'm sure that this is the problem, and that you don't need to repair your PS2.

By the way, I had the same problem last year and again last week. On both occasions, the CD lens cleaner did the trick.

Although, certain early batches of PS2s had dodgy lasers in them. If you PS2 was bought a few years ago (near when it was launched) then you may need to sent it back for repairs (which will cost £££).

If the lens cleaner solution doesn't work, that is.

Don't worry, I'm sure all you need to do is clean your lens.

I remember a thing on Watchdog about PS2 stopping reading the disk after a year or so.

Mine is also well dodgy. Plays most games, but getting it to play a DVD these days is impossible. Haven't got round to buying a lens cleaner yet though.

You can get cheap spares off the net and fit them at yourself home - it is not hard providing you have some little screwdrivers and haven't got the hippy hippy shakes.

Hmmm. I'm trying to get the PS2 to read my Xport CD and having no luck. Might give this a go. I doubt I've got the right screw drivers though
