Songs that should be more widely known.
Which songs or indeed bands/singers do you think this should apply to?
For example whenever I listen to a Belle And Sebastian album, I cannot help but think that songs such as 'The Wrong Girl', 'I Fought In A War', 'My Wandering Days Are over', amongst many others, should be known by a far wider audience than they currently are. The world should be singing along to these songs, I think to myself. Another couple of examples off the top of my head (having purchased his 'best of' compilation, in the HMV sale today) are Julian Cope's 'The Greatest And Perfection Of Love' and 'Sunspots'. Ofcourse the elitist in me would prefer such songs remain as relative secrets, but they should of right be known by most people in the way that say 'Come On Eileen' or 'Heart Of Glass' are. To use an accepted 'acid test' Milkman and Postman (if not the world) should be whistling them, whilst on their rounds - you get my drift. I'm not really thinking of 'difficult' album tracks, but songs that should be accessible enough to become part of the public conscious, but for whatever reason never quite made it.

Hanging around by The Stranglers, should have been a single but they only released 2 of the first album. Also Always The Sun by the same band, great song but for some reason never made it big like it deserved to.

Seriously, I think the Delgados deserve a much bigger audience, but I'd love to hear the postman whistling a Slipknot track...

I'm sure what nationality he is, and unfortunately he appears to have mild Tourettes Syndrome, but I swear one of my local newsagents was "singing" excerpts from Eno's "Music for Airports" the other day ( it makes a "pleasant" change from receiving the occasional barely understandable "bast@rds")

Everything on Straw's one and only album - Shoplifting.
It's a top album - such a shame they didn't stay together long enough to do a follow up.
