Forssell To Return.....BUT

I spoke to someone who works with the team today at Selhurst, can't remember his name, but i spoke to him about Mikael.
He told me that another bid has been made, didn't tell me how much, but one which is likely to get Chelsea considering and is more than what we offered earlier in the season, BUT..... He then said though that Chelsea are interested in Fan Zhiyi and that any deal involving Mikael Forssell could mean Fan Zhiyi going to Chelsea.

So how many of you would accept losing Fan to acquire Mikael permanently.
I, for one, certainly would.
Reasons being Fan is missing to much of the season for me whereas Mikael doesn't and he has age so much on his side whereas Fan doesn't.

Yeah Mikka over Fan if it came down to it... (shame to lose the Chinese connection but we seem to have failed to capitalise on it anyhow... looks like we could get more genuine interest in CPFC from Berhalter with the USA crowd)

If I had to take issue with Fan (sorry!) it would be:-

a) he sometimes seems to be 'all arms and legs' and is prone to erratic moments of defensive behaviour

b) he appears to be even more mercenary than most footballers - he does not come across as loyal to CPFC as a club

c) I still have concerns about his alleged connection with the Malasian 'floodlight fixing' gang and the reports that he offered to pay the bail for the ringleader (conspiracy time: and I still wonder if his early sending off against QPR and Miller conceding 6 goals are unconnected? Hmmm)

Having thought a lot about Fan lately and how injured he often is, and how many games he misses with China - plus the fact that I think we need to rebuild our back four from scratch anyway, as much as I love Fan - I'd be happy to go along with that.

Fan is not mercenary at all! If he were, he would be loooooonnnng gone. Our traverses in administration, wages not being paid etc were too much for many players but Fan toughed it out. I think its ridiculous to say he's not loyal to CPFC.

Mika for Fan would be fine by me. I doubt it'll happen.. Chelsea just dont need Fan and would target proven Premiership quality which he is not. They are also clearing out old players and Fan isnt young.

Fair call... I hadn't thought of it that way... I think I mean he is loyal to the infrastructure of Palace and he is more settled than ever but is always associated with other clubs and publicly has stated his desire to play Premiership footy (fair enough) and "I will leave if we go down but not if Steve Coppell is boss" etc. plus with billions of fans in China perhaps he doesn't make it clear enough if (or how much) he appreciates the (comparitively small number of) Palace fans who turn out week in week out?

I would take that deal today and not lose one minute sleep over it. I have always been a fan of Fan, but he does spend far too much time away from the team and it will not get any better next season.
If we can keep Forssell by parting with Fan, (not that he (SJ) needs it) he will have my support.

I've really enjoyed watching Fan over the last few seasons, but we need a settled defense and we will not get it with Fan around.I say thank him for all his good service and wish him well with his new challenge, where ever it may be.
I'd take forssell over Fan.

I'm not sure.

The thought of 1 billion chelsea fans nauseates me.

I've posted in defence of Fan in another thread earlier but while I would like to keep him, if his departure means Forssell stays here permanently as part of the deal then fine, I'll go along with it provided we get another centre back as well to shore up the defence.

Yeah there is a lot of talk but I think much of it could be attributed to agent-stirring. I was surprised at that quote.. it was made from 10 000 miles away so perhaps it lost something in translation or distance? =)
I admire him as a player and his performances for Palace. However I would not be devastated to see him go but I dont think it will be to a top Premiership team. I wouldnt mind keeping him as an utility player rather than our defensive mainstay.

That deal would be fan-tastic (sorry) but I don't see it happening. Claudio has already said that he wants to reduce the age of his squad.
Fan is past his best, and Forsell only has his best ahead of him, so lets hope that something can be worked out.

It's a difficult one. Fan, when playing, makes a huge difference to the team. But then I would love to keep Mikael. Let's hope Mr Jordan can work something out.

Chelsea fit the bill perfectly then.

They will look more at the commercial benefits than whether he is any good or not.

If true, I would bite their hands off.

It's a no brainer, Forssell it's got to be......although I wouldn't have believed I'd be saying this of Forrsell some while back when almost every touch seemed to go wrong and every shot over the bar.

The guys settled in and he's pure class!

Still doesn't make sense though - Chesea's team is verging on the elderly, and Fan is 32-33 years old (even though he plays like a 26 year old), and he is starting to get a few injuries.

I heard yesterday that Mikkeal could well be coming back on another year's loan. He wants to stay apparently and Chelsea are considering it.

I would definitely take Forssell over Fan any day of the week.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Forssell will become one of Europes top strikers within 5 years.

Fan Im afraid is destined only to get older, more injury prone, and lose his speed.

Although a situation where we keep them both would be great. And IF KevinT is correct (and who are we to doubt him, he is a Chelsea supporter after all ) then another seasons loan would be a massive coup. Having a player for 2 1/2 seasons of Forssells quality without paying for him would be tremendous deal.
