Xbox-Live and Internet Connection Sharing

my special edition halo 2 arrived last week and im dying to play it over xbox live, however, i have ntl freedom broadband (which is pants by the way!) therefore im using an adsl line with no ethernet connection, eliminating any chance of directly connecting my xbox to the phoneline. Ive read that you can share your internet connection with the xbox by running the ethernet cable (RJ5) via my PC. ive tried this and messed around with the settings but to no avail! Has anyone been in this situation?

First question, have you got the right sort of cable? You need a crossover cable (I think because this type of cable assigns a IP address where as a patch cable expects the device to have one, summit like that anyway) Plus if you've got a firewall that it isnt blocking the ports that live uses (can't remember them off the top of my head, but theres more info at xbox.com/live) Check those things out for now Plus get your gametag on here so we can add you and play you

hi, ive got a crossover cable. managed to get pro evo 4 working on xbox live but not halo 2! my gamertag is 'notouriousGIO'

so you've signed into live fine? If you're in live I don't see why Halo shouldnt work, do you get any error messages when you try and sign in?

i have trouble when trying to play halo 2 or PGR2 because they require an update, PES4 doesnt so it signs it fine although lags a bit. I get 'xbox live is not responding' when it tries to update

I've had that when trying to play unreal tournement, didn't know why! Seems kind of random, one thing I've noticed is XBox live takes a age to sign in since halo 2 has come out... or maybe thats just Halo 2, cos to be fair I haven't played anything else online!
