Southampton new manager: Redknapp!
Will upset a few Portsmouth fans that's for sure!
Not sure it is good for our survival hopes either to be honest. Not been confirmed yet, but the article seems pretty sure and the BBC website isn't normally one to just go for speculation. BBC Sport Article

This was muted when he left Portsmouth.
Funny old game!

Bloody hell.
Not good for us though. I had them down as certainties for the drop. Now I only have two - Norwich and West Brom. |

My ither half ( a Pompey season ticket holder ) is a bit subdued this morning. Says he couldn't blame Harry at all. Reckons Harry will always be a hero at Fratton Park....just won't have a stand named after him at the new ground!

My own reaction was much the same as Hypodams.

Pompey fans must be livid about it, they should have done everything possible to keep Harry Redknapp. If Southampton climb the table lets hope it's at Pompey's expense and not our own!

That BBC article is pure speculation though based on Redknapp saying 'who knows, we'll wait and see'.

IF this turns out to be true, it's certainly a kick in the teeth for Portsmouth and a booster for Southampton. Many might blame Harry, but if his disagreements with Mandaric were based around Mandaric's insistance on being able to do whatever he liked because he's in charge and it's a free market, then what better way to prove your worth in that free market than by heading off to your rivals.
That said, are there any real examples of managers moving to a team's local rivals and being a success? Brian Clough maybe, if Forest and Derby really consider themselves rivals? Not Alan M******, that's for sure.

My housemates (all saints fans) would welcome Redknapp with open arms. One of them wants to lose every game until Wigley gets the boot, he just can't stand the man.

Saints will still struggle in my view. Lowe is paranoid about his wage bill if the drop comes and may make the same mistake as Bradford a few years ago and start selling players prematurely. I'm certain Beattie will depart in January for one.
Then of course is the long term effect on Portsmouth to consider, will 'Arry come back for some players in the January sales? I remain convinced that Southampton and Birmingham will be scrapping it out with us come the end of the season and fimly believe that Portsmouth will be in amongst it too. |

Good idle query that one. I think the field is pretty small, for one thing. Terry Neil managed Arsenal and Tottenham to various degrees of mediocrity. If West Brom and Villa are proper rivals, there's Big Ron, but he didn't do much at Villa. The best I can do so far is Joe Royle who was successful at both Oldham and Man. City, if that counts. I'd guess if the net was widened to foreign shores, there'd be quite a few |

Even though they got relegated, Coppell's reign at Brighton gave them a better chance of staying up than I thought they'd have.

I'd be livid if I were a Pompey fan. How would we feel if Dowie went to Charlton?

So Is Agent Wigley gettting the sack before the next game?
Lets not forget Birmingham are In this relagation scrap. Also we need to focus on ourselves. We should have picked up more points In recent games than we have and now I'm worried about being bottom at Christmas. |
