Israeli midfielder Eyal Berkovic has left Portsmouth by mutual consent.

The former Manchester City star moved to Fratton Park a year ago but recently told the club he wanted to continue his career in his homeland.

Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric said: "Eyal Berkovic has decided to finish with football in England and has asked if he can return to Israel so his contract has been cancelled by mutual agreement.

"This is completely in line with our policy during this period of helping players who want to leave the club.

"We thank Eyal for his time at the club and wish both him and his family well for the future," Mandaric told the club's website.

I heard that if Portsmouth payed off his wages then he wouldn't be allowed to sign for us. Not sure about the details but think i read that somewhere.

If he's said he wants to finish off his career in Israel, why would he want to come to Palace?
