So, no coverage anywhere.

Kiraly had offers from Premiership sides and teams back in Germany. He told me at the POTY dinner that these offers had to be considerably better than his current deal for him to even consider moving.

Considering, statistically, that he was the second best keeper behind Cech, it doesn't suprise me that he's the more likely of the two to be sold. He's older and is far more likely to be earning more than Speroni.

Speroni has had a year of good coaching from Mike Kelly, I doubt he'll make the same mistakes as he did last season...but that's just a guess.

I have been told by a mate in Budapest (not that fecking Pistake fellow) who claims that he is prepared to play for us next season, as nothing worth while has been offered to his agent. Will confirm this on Friday when I am in Prague (meeting this mate there for a few beers).

I wont tire of saying this - Kelly and Dowie believe Speroni to be the better keeper. Hence why he started the season. Kiraly did fantastically when he first went into the side (even if his form post-horror show v Wales he was a shadow of his former self). I have heard 2 Premiership teams (one London, one not) and a German side are after him. This has been confirmed by another BBSer. He'll be off, IMHO.

I really don't want to give him another go, one mistake and his confidence will be shot to crap again by all the boo boys. Then we are back to square one.

I would rather we cut our loses with him.

Is surely a good thing that the fringe players are mixed in with the regulars as they will be if they play during the season. Gives the young lads a bit of experience alongside the older lads as well.

From the official site:

The Eagles are trailing to a fourth minute goal in their first pre-season friendly of the summer. Palace were caught out on the left early on but they have dominated the remaining 41 minutes of the half.

After 18 minutes Sandor Torghelle played a through pass to Dougie Freedman who was unmarked however a Teplice defender hauled him to the ground and received a red card.

As half-time approached Palace found themselves down to 10 men as Aaron Fray was sent-off for a second bookable offence.

Iain Dowie is expected to change the entire side for the start of the second-half.

Palace first-half: Speroni; Togwell, Hudson, Wilson, Fray; McAnuff, Hughes, Watson, Kolkka; Freedman, Torghelle.

FK TEPLICE 2 - 1 PALACE

FK Teplice, Palace's opponents, celebrate a goal

I assume that he is still under contract (another 2 years?) so why not make him work for his wages? No one knows whether he is capable
of playing at CCC level, so we will all have to wait and see. What
is the point of writing off a player yet who had only 9 substitute app-
earances in the Premier League, after an earlier career in the lower
Leagues at Watford, Cambridge, Peterborough, Oldham and Colchester
in which he scored scored 32 goals in 118 games?
He played several games in the Barclays Premiership Reserve League
where he scored 6 goals, the same number as fellow top-scorer
Dougie Freedman......
Because he is a utility player with considerable previous experience in the lower Leagues, he COULD become a useful squad member for us
in the 46 game Coca Cola Championship, especially if we are ever
hit by injuries and suspensions. Time will surely tell?

Speroni was given his chance because Kiraly arrived late in the summer and didn't get any games in during pre-season. Dowie wasn't keen to unsettle the side for the first game at Norwich so went with Speroni.

I know too much can't be read into squad numbers, but if he really thinks Speroni is better than why has he taken the number 1 shirt off him and given it to Gabor? Makes no sense to change it unless he's making a point. Ditto Macken > Torghelle.

Because they don't fit an argument, we cannot just dismiss facts
st. albans. In his last two seasons at Colchester,(presumably
AFTER his "failure" at St. Albans) he went on to score 11 goals in
2002/03 and 12 goals in 2003/04, so mustn't he have been
doing something right to have shown that improvement?
As for his total League goals being a "rubbish return for a decent
striker", wouldn't it rather depend on what position he played,
because, being the utility player he is, it is extremely unlikely
that he would have played in ALL his League games as an out-
and-out striker? This has certainly been the case when he
has turned out for Palace reserves, where he was played in
several different positions, in both an attacking and support-
ive role.
I simply do not know whether he can crack it in the CCC, but
since he is contracted for another two years, Palace have little
option but to challenge him to deliver the goods. I await the
outcome with interest!

Freddy Kurz and co - get a life and accept that Andrews is a shocking footballer who is nowhere near good enough for a team that supposedly with intentions to challenge for promotion to the Premiership. That goes for Speroni too - the man's rubbish and he's proved that time and again. Why waste time with players who plainly aren't good enough? We can't carry passengers next year.

I used to watch Andrews when I worked on a local newspaper in St Albans. Me and the sports editor used to crack up at how bad he was. Truly shocking. He's done nothing since then apart from score 12 goals in a season for Colchester. F*king brilliant! I seem to remember Gareth Williams getting 8 goals in 16 games for Colchester while on loan there two seasons back so that says it all for me.

I think that's being a bit harsh on Speroni at least. He made some well publicised howlers, but to describe him as "rubbish" is a nonsence. He was a very capable keeper in Scotland, and in amongst his bad performances for Palace he had some very good ones - Charlton in the League Cup is one that springs to mind. I don't see it as wasting time to try and develop a young player who we spent 500k aquiring, and who might yet prove to be very good.

Young keepers are often affected by their first taste of pressure, and it can affect their consistency, but they can often get over it. When Spurs signed a young Pat Jennings he was very much like Speroni early on - lots of good saves followed by some dreadful howlers. They panicked, and tried to offload him after a few months, deciding (prematurely) that he wouldn't be up to the task. Fortunately for Spurs, no-one would take him, and he developed into one of the all time greats. It's far too early to write off Speroni.

Speroni is a fine shot stopper but does not command his area which is crucial to a confident and sound defence.

Dowie has already said that Andrews is a good character to have at the training ground, a hard working pro who's attitude is infectious. If anything, its good to have him in the team for this reason alone. Better to have that than some sulking idiots who just want money, surely?

And on Speroni, he's not proved it time and again. At Norwich in the first game of the season he was absolutley outstanding. He made some brilliant reflex saves. His mistake at Everton cost us dear, and it was a catalyst for the poor performances after that. However, its not just Speroni who's to blame for the results at Pompey etc.

Since then, he's been with one of the best goalkeeping coaches there is for the last year. I would like to think that Mike Kelly will have focused on his weaknesses, such as his command of the box, and that he'll have learnt from his mistakes, but to write him off at this stage is completely unfair and typical Palace fan stuff.

I'm convinced that Andrews was signed for non footballing reasons and if he is a good person to have around the place then so be it. Just as long as he doesn't play much this season :)

I agree 100% about Speroni though. The criticism he has received on here has been bordering on the outrageous. How did the poor guy stand a chance when he had Poppo and Hudson in front of him as a defence; the former who scored several own goals past him.

I would like to see how well he would do with a decent defence in front of him. Technically he is a superb keeper and with a little tweaking he will be outstanding for Palace. I just hope that he isn't forced out, because we are guarenteed to regret it if we let him go.

Not really. Many of the posts relate to Wayne Andrews in a general sense, i.e. he's a shocking footballer and his previous goalscoring record isn't that great, etc, etc. Those arguments have no bearing on yesterday's friendly whatsoever and the whole Wayne Andrews general debate is becoming quite tiresome. The thread title is 'Teplice 2 Palace 1' NOT 'Why was Wayne Andrews on the pitch last night?'!!!

so everyone time someone had a bad game or is a waste of space , we shall now only put that on a thread of that person . Not discuss it at all on the thread of the game concerned .
EVERYONE CLEAR NOW !!!!

twat , it was the fact that he was on the pitch for a friendly that started this , why have him in the squad . surely a friendly is for trying out new things and to give players match fitness , as andrews is going to be keeping the bench free of dirt this season why waste the oppurtunity to try someone else . if you feel the debate is becoming tiresome then I suggest you got to sleep and wake up when either the deabte is finished or when he leaves .

Don't f****n call me a twat! You wouldn't have the bollox to say it to my face so don't f****n bother typing it on here!

My initial reaction to the Wayne Andrews thing is that, in the past, when threads have gone off at a tangent, everyone jumps down everyone else's throats saying 'there's already a thread on this, there's already a thread on this, whinge ••••in whinge blah blah blah'. And it's usually the people who are new to the board or haven't got many posts to their name that get singled out. Yet, if someone with a few thousand posts to their name does it, it's all ok!!!

Match report now up on palace-echo.net - I was told it was Boyce who gave the ball away for Teplice's second, but I was fiddling with my camera at the time, so Sandown may well be right.

Some Pictures will follow when I get a decent 'net connection and time to use it!

There is when someone resorts to calling you a twat. My mates can call me a twat but I won't accept it from someone I've never met before and who doesn't know me or anything about me.

Still, I suppose it's a case of 'sticks and stones.....'

Back to the game last night, from the 2nd half line up, it looked like Andrews was playing out wide rather than upfront. This is something Dowie did last season late in games when Wayne was on. Presumably because he realised he was getting in the way of the proper strikers on the pitch.

Oh well, might as well join the Wayne debate. :o

Personally, I think Wayne should have been played up front as the target man. We need a presence up front and IMHO, he provides a great aerial threat. I can see him now, out-jumping and overpowering those poor defenceless CCC centre halves, with the likes of AJ, Dougie and Macken feeding off him. It's a mouthwatering prospect don't you think??!!

- Kirally turned up with 10mins to go.

Gabor was there all game and was on the pitch before it, Hislop didnät have a touch apart from takingit out of the back of the net, didnät see any foreigner and it was Andrews up front when AJ went off with Ryan Hall going leftwing

The guy was stood shadowing Aki all game, wearing a black suit and sunglasses. Afterwards he was stood by the corner of the club house next to Hughes, I asked him a question he replied he didn't speak English, Aki walked past and said he is staying with us in Salzburg and trained with us today. I am sure they called him Amuroso when he went off. He was about 6ft1, aged 25ish.

So you're saying everyone who isn't either a first team regular or a trialist should remain unused for friendlies?

What a ludicrous theory; surely the whole point of friendlies is THE OPPOSITE, to allow players like Andrews, Black, Ryan Hall, Torghelle, Fray, Hudson, etc to stake their claim for a place in the side next season?

You seem to have a massive issue with Wayne Andrews, and believe that you are better placed than Dowie, Harbin, McDonald or Symons to make a judgment call on his ability. I know who I'd rather trust.

I tend to think the opinions of some on here drift into rants about those they rate and those they dont. We all have an entitlement to an opinion but none of us should forget that the coaching staff are not only 100 times more qualified than us but they are also privvy to what goes on behind closed doors. We are not (no not even you Trolly!)

why is at a good post , if he is such a great player . why cant he recreate his greatness on the pitch . Dowie and co have made some shocking decisions but people obviously cant see these so they can carry on in the own little dream world.
