View Full Version : Eintract Frankfurt VS CPFC

Calder2

Last season Frankfurt gained promotion to Bundesliga one after finishing third in Liga two. Although being in the exile of the second division since 1996, Frankfurt were actually one of the founding members of the revamped Bundesliga system in 1963.

The fact that Eintracht (which means United) had been playing in
Bundesliga two which does not mask the fact that they once played in what some people called the greatest European Cup final ever losing 7-3 to Real Madrid in 1960. Twenty years later in 1980 they won the UEFA Cup beating Borussia Monchengladbach but Frankfurt are a club of limited success with only one German league title to their name, a pre-Bundesliga title won in 1959, and four German Cups won in 1974, 1975, 1981, 1988.Frankfurt are not a team made up of superstars but they do have plenty of talented young Germans and they also have a few older hands with a bit of experience.

Strangely, Frankfurt have the same nickname as Palace, they are known as Die Alder (The Eagles),so with this match being the first meeting of the two sides the winner could probably lay claim to being crowned the King of the Eagles!

After Wednesday night's win/lose/draw against czech side FK Teplice Palace will be looking to build/bounce back/go one better this time around. Kick off is at 6.30pm in Fussen, Germany.

According to the Eintracht site it is 0-0 at ht:

My Translation is not good but here goes.

1:1! Unity unbesiegt Also in 6. Test play remained ungeschlagen the unity this evening.
Against English Prime Minister the League Absteiger Crystal Palace the crew of coach Friedhelm reached sparkles before 1.500 spectators in feet (Allgaeu) a 1:1 (0:0). Approximately 200 unity fans and well 50 travellers of the Londoner zauberten a little European Cup Feeling in the contemplative Allgaeu. Before the play fans of both teams in the city had fraternized and with or other yeast wheat had knocked against. On the pitch it did not remain so peaceful, because at both crews it concerns few weeks before the start the master places. The unity played for the first time in the new scharzwn leotards, which looked combined with the white trousers super. Everything else as descriptive was against it the play. Gate chances remained goods in short supply. In the first half both teams came only to in each case a chance. For Crystal Palace met Wayne Andrew from 20 meters the slat. With the unity Jermaine Jones set briefly before the break Benjamin Huggel in scene. This failed however freely before the former Hertha Schlussmann Gabor Kiraly. In the second half the spectators got then somewhat more required. To be jubilant were allowed first the British, who re+whistled for the start after 5 minutes through exchanged John Macken to a freistoss into guidance went. The unity, which had only brought Husterer in the break for Rehmer, ran this arrears until 20 minutes before conclusion afterwards and became only livelier in the conclusion phase. Then the events estimated themselves one quarter of an hour before the end. After a foul at Huggel in the strafraum of the Londoner the arbitrator decided on strafstoss, but Jones failed because of goal keeper Shaka Hislop (75.).Aber only 3 minutes later could be jubilant the unity fans finally. After a corner of Lexa gate hunter was air van Lent by head to the place and marked reconciliation (78.). Tomorrow (17 o'clock 30) the eagle carriers meet in Colonel village a Allgaeu selection, before it goes then on Monday noon again back to Frankfurt. The list of the unity: Nikolov - Wiedener, Vasoski, Rehmer (46th Husterer), Spycher - Huggel, Preuss - Lexa, Meier, Jones - van Lent

Well we get the idea.

Eintracht Frankfurt ended their game with Premier League relegated Crystal Palace in a 1-1 draw in front of 1000 spectators.

Crystal had the majority of easy chances, and in the 50th minute took the advantage, going 1-0 up through Hudson. Following a free kick from the halfway line on the right hand side, keeper Nikolov was undecided and couldn't prevent the agressor, who looked suspiciously offside, from taking his chance.

The last 40 minutes belonged undoubtedly to Eintracht. A few chances went missing before Arie van Lent scored the equaliser, following a Lexa corner, in the 76th minute.

Jermain Jones also missed a penalty that Benjamin Huggel had won.

1:1! Eintrach still unbeaten!

Even in the 6th pre-season match, Eintracht stayed undbeaten this evening. Friedhelm Funkel achieved a 1:1 draw against the relegated English Premier League side Crystal Palace infront of 1500 fans at Fuessen.

Around 200 Eintracht fans and a good 50 Palace supporters provided a bit of a magical European Cup feeling in scenic Allgaeu. Fans mingled and befriended each other in the town, drinking one or more Hefeweizen (type of beer famous for the region) together. On the pitch, things wearnt as civilised, because the season starts for both teams in only a few weeks.

Eintracht played in their new black kit, which, with the white shorts, looked superb. The match was the only other thing worthy of note. Goal opportunities were rare, both teams only created a chance each. Wayne Andrews hit the bar from 20 yards for Crystal Palace. And for Eintracht, Jermaine Jones set Benjamin Huggel free infront of goal, only for former Hertha Berlin keeper Gabor Kiraly to stop him.

The second half had a bit more to offer. The Brits were the first to cheer, when 5 minutes into the half, Palace went 1-0 up through the substitute John Macken.

Eintracht, who only made one substitution when Rehmer was replaced for Husterer, were 1-0 down until 20 minutes from time. They only started becomming more active during the end-phase (last 15 minutes) of the game. A quarter of an hour from the final whistle, Eintracht won a penalty for their efforts, when a foul on Huggel in the Palace box resulted in a penalty being given by the referee. Jones however fired directly at the keeper, Shaka Hislop (75th minute). However, the Eintracht fans were finally allowed to cheer when only 3 minutes later, a corner from Lexa was converted by a header from Arie van Lent, to bring the tie back to 1:1 (78th minute).

The eagle carriers (Frankfurt) will tomorrow (at 5.30) meet an Allgaeu select 11, before they then return to Frankfurt on monday afternoon.

German report

1:1! Eintracht weiter unbesiegt

Husterer), Spycher - Huggel, Preuß - Lexa, Meier, Jones - van Lent

It looked like Macken scored from where I was but the tannoy first announced Macken then corrected to Hudon. As for the penalty, I was within 5 yards of the incident and Ward took the ball first. The goal however was from a man Ward was meant to be marking.

Shaka Hislop was fantastic, he was in stitches for most of the second half. We were right behind his goal and giving him a bit of stick for saving AJ's pen last season.

A top bit of support from behind the goal,

Shaka whats that on your boot..oooooooo hello sailer. Can't believe he fell for that one.

Was a top weekend, had a good few beers, good banter with a group of Frankfurt supporters who stood with our group behind the goal and can slate in English better than we can at his own team. Beautiful setting, in all sorts of bits and pieces now

To be honest I can't actually remember what happened in the game, not due to alcohol, well may a little. Just enjoying the singing and the crack really. Only really noticed Shaka and that cos we were singing to him all second half.

I will say we have to give Gabor a grey goal keepers top. The pale blue really clashes with the jog pants

I watched the second half from the halfway line (albeit with the sun in my eyes), and am 90% sure our goal was from Macken, as were all the Palace fans around me. The announcer was on the roof at the opposite end, so I prefer my judgement.

We got to the Fairytale castle on the Sunday morning, luckily we got up really early so got up to it and round it before the bulk of the Japanese and Americans descended (or ascended!) on it. Amazing place.

Fussen was worth staying in, certianly was a novelty to be there on "Medieval weekend" with all the parades etc. Shame that the Palace fans seemed to all go their separate ways on the Saturday night - lots of small groups rather than one central place to go.

Only bummer was that the German Grand Prix took place at Hockenheim on the Sunday afternoon, which meant our return journey to Frankfurt Hahn airport took about an extra hour, due to the motorway being rather busy!

All good though, and I have to say, sign up Shaka (great penalty save!)

Mine's a Leffe!

I was literally right on top of it, mate - it was a bit of an unneccessary challenge. The ball was running away from the Frankfurt player after a poor touch, Ward threw his leg right across him and did get the player first.

For what its worth, I also thought Hudson got the final touch on the ball for the goal at the time.

I'll dig out pictures from both games soon (including the above incident).

Stumpy NRM and I were the closest people to the challenge, as it happened right in front of us. It was exactly as NTE said. Poor first touch and a very clumsy challenge. The ball was running away from the Frankfurt player and as Ward challenged him, he went down after his left leg was taken from under him. The ball ran out of play and to my feet.

Great save though from Shaka Flipflop......who was a top man and enjoyed our banter. :p

Excellent description of my Club!

I was happy as I heard about the friendly game against crystal palace, because some years ago I visitied the Eagles at Selhurst Park. :)

Along my visit to the first annual conference of "supporters direct" in the year 2001 (I think Crystal Palace owns an Supporters Trust too), I visited a first division match at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace vs. Millwall. Unfortunately the eagles lost the game 1-3 but it was a amazing for me, because it was my first match at the first division.

I remember that during a silent minute before the match (I think in memory to a popular TV moderator who died some days before) a crystal fan cried "Millwall sucks!" and everyone at the stadium heard it, even the lions fans...

I wish You all the best for returning to the Premier League!

I've just reviewed my photos and it is clear that the reason for the poor touch is that Ward is clearly grabbing the bloke with both hands!

Great photos Neil,
Rather picturesque setting.

Just mentioned this on the AJ thread, but wondering if any of you chaps had any thoughts.

AJ and Freedman upfront in the first half.

Macken and Torghelle in the second.

Aren't those pairings a bit mixed up? How did they work out? Would have thought Dowie would try the big 'un little 'un approach.
