Probably going to get shot down for this, but here goes...

No source or anything, but we're obviously looking for another striker, so how about looking at Celtic's Chris Killen? Or would, as it seems and I suspect, Celtic demand too much in a loan fee/his wages would be too high? Doncaster came close to getting him in the transfer window but it fell through. Mowbray loaned Beattie out to us, so maybe would be willing to do business again?

Thoughts?

Plus Killen plays in Scotland, which counts as overseas, so we wouldn't be able to sign him until January anyway.

Wasn't aware of that rule, so fair enough! I thought Naarch got him as an emergency loan last season, but evidently not.

Didn't Norwich get Gow on an emergency loan?

Now a free agent as far as I know. Averages about one goal in three (15 per season if he avoids injury, which he hasn't always been able to do.) Might be too much like Lee in terms of playing style.
