He'll probably get 45 minutes alongside Richard Sadlier

Ireland have FOUR sub strikers on the bench, so i don't think he'll play

If Clinton doesn't go to the WC and Millwank scum does, I won't be happy. :grrr:

Tom Watt said the only person he could see replacing quinn would be sadlier.

It most definitely is. Someone's looking to book their place for WC, how's Ricketts doing?

Bodes well for Kirovski and Berhalter if they are in the squad to face Italy

Hopefully Clinton will 'miskick' his shot in the general direction of Sadlier at full speed and break a few ribs. Or Sadlier misses a gaping open goal and blows his chances for a WC spot

I'm happy with Clinton hitting the post with a left foot shot. As long as sadlier does nothing. A goal would be preferable from Clinton however

Radio 5 bloke, John whatever, mentioned Sadlier, but not Clinton. Cue media persecution of Palace.

Good People,

Anyone know how our Clinton did last night, I read this morning that he hit the post in the second half after coming on as a sub. Unfortunately the paper dedicated most of the coverage to Stephen Reid and Robbie Keane. I was torn between a club vs country thing last night and opted to watch England, so any info re Clints performance would be much appreciated.

In short he did well enough but his cause probably wasn't helped by Robbie Keane's goal.

He only came on at half time. Ireland played less well in H2 with the ball less in Clinton territory.

His post shot was a good reflex action and was close - his off the ball running and was good and he seemed to fit in well.

He didnt do badly. Had a ref (Gallagher) who, when he was wrestling with defenders as he does, gave him the verdict. So he was backing in and grabbing the defender, unnoticed by the ref, but getting the decision. Twice it nearly led to sometihng. A free kick by Harte hit the post and on the second occasion, Clinton showed a bit of quick thinking and took the kick himself quickly and set Sadlier away down the wing. His chance was another quick reaction. It looked to rebound off a defenders leg onto Clinton who instinctively hit it and it grazed the post.

Never thought I'd see the day when it was a Palace Millwall combo up front for Ireland!

He did ok. Looked lively and caused their defense alot of problems.

I think he looks a dead cert for the World Cup squad. Sadlier looks a big lump with not alot about him, Robbie Keane must be the most overrated player in history and Duff is a midfielder for his club. Connolly is not in the same class as Clint and Niall Quinn is always injured. He's got to go.

I love your prejudice against Robbie Keane, explain it to me one more time ;)

I must admit that shocked me a bit too. A bit harsh perhaps, although admittedly when he moved abroad and it didnt work out I did think perhaps he wasnt as good as people thought but certainly not the most overrated player ever! As Top Dog will tell you, that's Akinbiyi :)

You should know by now.

But for others, here goes. He plays with his head down, takes too many touches, isn't strong on the ball, isn't a good enough team player, isn't as clinical a finisher as everyone makes out, runs like he's shat in pants, and most importantly he's keeping King Clint out of the team:)

clinton played well enough to ensure he is going to Japan. Was that the first ever internatinal team to contain players from all four south London clubs?

i'm not so sure, I have a horrible feeling about this one. McCarthy wants Duff and Keane as his first choice front 2, Quinn will go purely for sentimental reasons but because he is half crocked they will want to take a bean pole as cover for him i.e Sadlier. That leaves one place up for grabs between Clinton and David Connelly, there is a strong possiblility he will opt for Connellys greater experience.

Hope I'm wrong but he needs to be given a proper chance in a warm up game and take it so that it is impossible to leave him out.
