Been out of the game for a year and a half.

Two things:

Why on earth would he want to come and play for us?

How on earth could we afford him?

Lol someone's downloaded the FM10 demo; so excited about that! But in order to play for us we would have to pay him wages that would send the club over the brink.

Can we afford two playmakers in the middle of the field? (Deco and Mendietta)

It wasn't a serious suggestion! We don't need anymore overpaid players - what I really wanted to discuss was this guys decline - I mean how the hell did MIddlesborough get him?

What other huge signings 20m+ have flopped as bad as him?

Then why not say that in the first place, and ask it in world of football?

And at the end says he is not ruling out a return!

Could be an interesting player for some team but doesn't suit our style of play, no matter how good he is now.

In answer to adz i give you Juan Sebastian Veron!

Most of Boro's signings quickly go downhill. Must be the depressing area that smells of marmite. :lux:

He's still living in the area. obviously still loves the place despite things not going so well as a player

Awful for Boro?

31 appearance in the side that won the League cup in 2004.
Only 7 the following year as they went to last 16 in Uefa Cup
Then 17 appearances the following year as Boro went to the quarters of league cup semis of FA cup and the UEFA cup final.

How much did he cost them?

yes. lets sign him. I believe he'll play well in the middle with Derry.

I hope my irony has come across well in this thread.

In answer to adz i give you Juan Sebastian Veron! That'll be Juan Sebastián Verón, 2008 South American player of the year, playing for Estudiantes, the Copa Libertadores winners (the S American version of the Champions Lge) ? Plus he's an important member of the Argentina national side. I think we have more chance of getting Mendieta.

He was truely one of THE worst premiership players of all time, based on how much Man U and Chelsea spent on him.

Mendieta was a cracking player and thought he did well in his first season at boro. Honestly, they had a lot of very good players at one point but various upheavels meant a lot of them never really had their chance to shine.

I would be suprised though if Mendieta couldn't hack it in league two, maybe even league one if he's kept himself fit. Michael Hughes shouldn't really have been as good as he was for us considering his age but he still performed well for us at a very high level for a number of years

There was an article about Mendieta the other day on the BBC website. He claims he had a good first season for them, then got injured and then fell out of favour with Southgate.
He also said that he loves the northeast. His main home is there.
