Captain of their reserve team I think.

No idea how good he is but he played pretty well against Olympiacos in the cup last month when Arsenal were fielding youngsters.

Looked class against Olympiakos, big, powerful, rangy centre half. Seemed to show composure on the ball and had a good arial presence.

Would benefit both club and player.

How Wenger/Arsenal avoid the same stick that gets dished out to other clubs for this type of behaviour I'll never know.

If anything they are praised for the number of outstanding youth prospects they produce. Laughable really.

Although there is a posibility that the mischevious Mr Monk has taken this quote from Mick Jones' blog, looked in Arsenal's reserves and put 2 and 2 together:

"We have also been looking at somebody at Arsenal and West Ham. We had someone at the West Ham reserves game the other night and ironically Freddie scored twice." ;)

Well, there may be a grain of truth in this. After all, Arsenal are looking at that promising young Notts County defender Sol Campbell right now so any other centre back will be slipping down their pecking order.

But, yes, I keep thinking that we must be have more M'Bargos than Charlton have Sodjes right now?

I'm most worried by the Dorman thread, which intimates that we should expect better things from him bulking up. I have pledged my allegiance to the Monk, and still believe the day will come when one of his inside tips actually pay off.

But if he starts targeting our existing players for success and dooms them to a season of disaster, I may have to withdraw my support.

I am sure Monk has come out with more than that. I do think some of the time he sprouts sh*t, however, fans have to realise that at the time of him announcing the rumour - it could well be true only for the deal to fall through at a later date. All of the above could actually be true, but the players didnt sign for various reasons. Thats why its best not to post a rumour until it is pretty much done.

In an ideal world, that's true. But we clearly need two centre halves, and haev missed out on a couple of targets already. Bartley is far more ready to play a role now than Wynter or Innis (for example), and a deal for this season with no ongoing commitment might give those youngsters the room to grow into members of our squad (perhaps via a loan spell themselves), without us having to pay a fee or wgaes beyonnd this campaign

I think most of the greedy bastards(sorry I mean PL footballers) would sign for Barry Town in the Welsh League for 50-100k a week and be more than happy to see on the bench or in the stand on match days.:o

Dougie has pretty much said the same quotes about Bartley in the way he did about Glenn Murray.

Bartley has had Championship experience too, would certainly fit the bill.

I was also thinking about defenders from any of the 3 clubs that were promotoed last year, QPR, Noriwch, and Swansea.

Fitz Hall anyone?!!!

QPR won't part with or loan Fitz Hall, they are short of reasonable defenders as it is and with the owners keeping the purse strings tight they are hardly likely to get any one who is really good in.

Erm, I think that's pushing the truth a bit.

How did we improve Taylor? I was never impressed with Upson at Palace. Cole was brilliant, but then he was always going to be. And both Gray and Black were let go by Arsenal as not good enough for them - and while they both did good jobs for us, their subsequent careers hardly prove that wrong.

Like stevek says, Cole would have gone the same way whether he'd been with us or anyone else. His quality was obvious from day 1. I'm sure Dougie could convince Mr Wenger that he could help Bartley along though - just having regular game time is a great help to a young player anyway even before you consider style of play etc.

Upson was coming back from a long injury, and was well off the pace, and was poor for us. Just goes to show that impressions of loan players can be deceptive, after seeing him in a Palace shirt NOBODY could have believed he would play for England, let alone go to a World Cup:D

No, he put in minimum effort (Obika style).
He is the type of bloke who can't get motivated. At the WC, he just gave up.
It's a problem with lots of ex-Arse players - they think they have made it and are now "permanent elite".
That's the story of Black and Gray - they never came to terms with the fact that they were not "elite" and were destined to play in the Champs. One gave up and pissed about, the other was a permanent sulk.

Well not exactly. You meet a lot of different people though at the games and some of them love sharing information! Or you may overhear things as I am usually sat in the same row as other clubs representatives or scouts.

The first thing you are told is 'keep your mouth shut and your ears open' in this line of work, but some people like to talk.

Having more time on my hands than usual, a cursary glance on the Rangers SPL page on Newsnow shows that they are very interested in three centre backs, a Nigerian playing for Salzburg ( Afolabi), A Romanian playing for Palermo ( Goian) and another player currently with Anderlecht ( Juhasz)

No mention of Kyle Bartley on any of today's dealings. Maybe they have given up on signing him or have been priced out of the deal.

Got a feeling that tonights Rangers game may have a big bearing on where this guy goes, if they win this one and go through over two legs, then i can see him being tempted back to Scotland, he'll have at least three games in the champions league group stage which will raise his profile all over europe, i know its supposedly between us and Burnley but i believe Rangers are still keen on him and getting into the group stages, which is alledgedly worth 7 million, will see them having no problem with fee or wages
Don't mind them as a team but tonight we're going to need a crash and burn
