1 last stint, classy appearances of the bench, would be very cheap, cheap wages, turn games around

Come home....

No.

Coaching, yes.

Playing, no.

Move along

We let him go because he couldn't cut it at this level any more (sad to say), why would he be of benefit now he's even older?

Palace Rebel

Wiser with age, he would in no way play a huge role, but still has it to come on with 20 mins to go and change a game.

nope. He couldn't. Why stop a younger player from the Academy developing by giving way to sentiment?

He's a legend. We all love him. But when he left he couldn't cut it anymore. It was the right time, and is barely playing now. Move on

Wont happen, nor should it, until he comes back in a coaching capacity at least

Yeah, because we can afford that right now can't we. Lets sign an old player just because we like him.

How many games has he played at Southend this season?

I'd rather have memories of Dougie being one of the best strikers we've ever had than of someone getting abuse off of certain sections of our fans because he cannot cut it at this level anymore.

Doug is my hero, but he should not be coming back to play for us. As a coach though I truly believe he will have a part to play at this club in the future. Him coaching the forwards, Aki the defence, what a dream team.

I think Ian Walsh and Don Rodgers could do a job for us, keep them on the bench, bring them on with 5 minutes to go, you never know.

Disagree. I think he has more class in his left nutsack than Lee who has the speed of an old cart horse and the turning circle of my old Morris Minor

Yeah ship him in.

He's only 35 and has played 10 times for Southend this season so far. He played 10 times last season as well.

Great idea. Wish I'd have thought of it.

In fairness, a quick check shows he's played 20 times for Southend this season, and I'm guessing has been injured for most of those he's missed.

But yes, much though I worship him, it's too late.

Though he would blatantly have one last moment of glory if he did return just through the power and pride of the red & blue stripes on his chest...

Someone's going to have to score the goal that keeps us up this season - but it won't be Dougie.

Looks like 12 league goals in 21 league appearances over 2 years. But I did find this while searching...

It's unlikely to be Lee either. ;)

Sorry, but I reckon if you put both in a straight race over 50 yards I reckon Lee would beat Dougie, knock some years off Dougie and it's a different kettle of fish. As others have said, why ruin the memories, he can't even make Southend's team on a regular basis, certainly not in the Div 1 top scorers list. I have Southend supporting mate and he says you can see he has the skill but he doesn't have the pace any more.

my favourite all time player

would love to see him in red & blue one last time

sadly though, he's had a few knocks over the last couple of years & only gets a few minutes on at the end of Southend's games

I think he signed a 2 year deal there, so will be out of contract in the summer & may even retire

Then I'd love to see him come back as a coach!

absolutely correct. think he will make a brilliant forwards coach if not a manager in future

Oh dougie freedman
When will we see your like again
You're so amazing
You're fncking brilliant
And when you get the ball
You score a goal

Bring back the Doug, on the big screen every home game at halftime. Just replay his goals. Legend.

I think NW should approach him about a coaching job next season when his contract is up, so we at least have something to look forward to.

I don't think we are in a position to pay any wages to anyone we are not already obliged to. Asset sales wherever possible, players released when contracts are up in most cases, and whoever is left playing is sadly the order of the day.

And a minimal coaching and admin staff too.
