....won its court case about the privacy of that footballer.

So can we assume that the public will soon be officially let down by the news that the big star 'playing away' was in fact a second rate player for a recently trophy clad north-western side?

The footballer concerned apparently has three weeks put forward a contructive and convincing appeal, which is a lot longer than it will take for the vast majority of the general public to completely lose interest in this drab "headline".

Sorry, but I 've had to delete the name.

Same rules apply to the BBS as any other form of media. To name the player at this stage is a gross contempt of court and we don't want Dave in clink ...do we??

Dont name him but there is nothing to stop you telling what team he plays for and his number shirt is there?

Must have missed everything about this... but i can guess what the story is about.

Where they planning on revealing that a top player is gay or something? and have now been banned from saying so by the courts?

Here you are Daniel:

The case of a married Premier League footballer who faces being named in kiss and tell allegations has been hailed a historic victory.
Neil Wallis, editor of the Sunday people, said he is confident the case will not go to a full hearing in the House of Lords.
The footballer, who is said to have had affairs with two women, faces being named after the Court of Appeal ruling on Press freedom.
But he has been given three weeks' grace to convince the House of Lords they should hear his case that confidentiality laws apply to affairs outside marriage.
Mr Wallis said a self-interested group of lawyers had been pushing the claim that a privacy law was being evolved in this country.
He said: "This man has spent 200,000 so far to hide the fact that he is a cheating rat.
"Lord Woolf has said there is no privacy law. This is tremendously important, not just for the tabloid media, but for the broadsheets and broadcasters as well.
"This is a clear message to the judges of this country. The court is saying that the public interest is not something to be judged by judges or the broadsheets or the chattering classes. It is what interests the public," added Mr Wallis.
The appeal judges had laid down the principle that freedom of expression was at least as important as privacy.

Yellow Cards to Sexyrazor and BRB Rule :moo:

Now ANY or ALL team mates of Matt Jansen could bring an action against the BBS for libel if they are not the player in question. We're in danger of getting into deep water here...

The player's name is widely known, but has NOT been published. PM to each other as much as you like, but please keep the speculation off the open discussion boards.

Thanks.

Can't we do what some of the papers did when they weren't allowed to directly name Jack Straw's son when he was caught selling dope, and have unnecessary articles congratulating him on his exam results or similar.
Could someone who knows start a thread linking the player in question with a move to Palace?

Why are people so intersted??? isnt it a bit nosy??? I cant really see the interst myself, loads of people have done it(cheated!), would you like people snooping around you and telling everyone what you had done???

I dont understand why the judge in this case has said that it is in the "publics interest" to be informed of the player's identity!! why??

A married Premier League footballer who had affairs with two women faces being named this weekend.

The player has failed in a last-ditch plea for his identity to remain secret.

His lawyers asked the Lord Chief Justice not to remove the cloak of anonymity until he had asked the House of Lords to consider if confidentiality laws apply to affairs outside marriage.

But Lord Woolf has ruled the footballer has run out of time and the story "would inevitably emerge irrespective of the order which the court has made."

Lord Woolf said: "One of the main reasons why the court was prepared to grant a stay was because the case was put forward in the Court of Appeal that it was one where the claimant was anxious to protect his wife and child from the damaging consequences of the publicity.

"But the claimant it appears has himself said something to his wife, apparently not the full story, as to what has happened."

The injunction preventing the footballer being named expires on Friday at midnight. The footballer's identity will become known in the first moments of Saturday morning.

High Court judge Mr Justice Jack ruled in September last year that the laws of confidentiality could apply to relationships outside marriage and ordered that the Sunday People newspaper should be barred from reporting the "kiss-and-tell stories" about the footballer, who is married with two children.

The newspaper successfully appealed against the order barring publication of the interviews with the footballer's former lovers - one a lap dancer he met in a club and the other a nursery teacher who claims he used his wealth, fame and position to seduce her.

Lord Woolf, the Lord Chief Justice, and two other top judges, heard the appeal on March 11 and ruled that granting an injunction would be "an unjustified interference with the freedom of the press".
