Being released by Stoke apparently. I know he's old ...

Ain't he at Brum?

Would be fantastic, could get bag fulls of goals but wages

Also pretty certain he said he would like to stay up in the midlands if he was to leave Birmingham, not sure though

Great idea. But far to much money. Shame, would have been a great call.

Last club, don't think he'd cost that much in wages for a final swansong!

Released by Birmingham, not Stoke

And I thought we'd got past offering stupid wages to ageing players?

Maybe we wont offer stupid wages and he'll accept for the chance to play some football?

Oh wait this is 2010... Sorry.

Exactly the sort of player we should avoid, I should imagine.

fair enough, Brum not Stoke - Got them confused. Don't much care for Prem football these days really.

Precisely the kind of player that got us in this mess in the first place, granted he might not be as bad as some of the others, but he would probably want 20k a week and will turn 37 in July, no thanks.

Anyone north of 33/34 should always be on greatly reduced wages imo. And anyway morrison-john-phillips is quite an old front line.

Only way it could work is a low basic & high appearance/goals bonus. Even then is unlikely. Someone will offer more than us I feel.

Indeed. Policy of only buying players with a sell-on value for me - cut-off age of 30. Unless it's Clinton:)

I would absolutely love it, but for every practical reason I don't see it.

Everyone says he's too old at the start of every season then he goes on and gets a load of goals. I think he's immortal! Good Signing!

think has another good season in him for the championship, quality player but not worth the money he would want i am sure. if he says, hey pay as you play... in an instant. there are still clubs out there willing to pay over the odds for old journeymen.. could see him ending up at qpr on 25k a week tbh:rolleyes:

:hi: Only if you could get him on decent wages. But that wont happen.

Exactly my thinking!

Look he definatly has one season in him at our level and if we could get him on a 1 year contract for 8k a month I think that would be a good investment and he would get at least 15 goal I would say.

as old past it players go I'd take him.

he'd score goals alongside Lee or whoever else we threw up with him.

More than Clinton would I'm sure.

Agree - we've had enough Prem cast offs under Jordan's various managers, the future has to be our youth and looking for bargains and frees in lower leagues

What are ok wages to offer him ? 7k a week ? 5k a week ? 10k ?

Just want to know what some people think is acceptable for a player that has one last season in him and will probably score at least 10 goals for us and set a few up too.

Disagree.

I think some of the younger players would learn a lot from him. Both playing-wise and how to be a good pro as well. He's hardly another Ruddock, is he ?

I don't think we'll be going anywhere next season without some quality, experienced players. Yes, youth is the future...but we cannot just rely on 11 kids from the academy in the new CPFC2010 future.

An excellent suggestion, on SENSIBLE wages

Only 5ft 7, a good little foil to Alan Lee, there will be a fair few after him though

Agree , as for wages what about whatever the average wage is at the club topped up by a decent goals bonus

Blues have given him a one year extension. Well that puts pay to that ever being a reality.

He is the sort of player we should be targeting at present.

A proven goalscorer at this level, who it appears just wants to play at the moment. His goal today was brilliant.

I believe he would score more from now til seasons end than Vaughan.

EDIT: That is not meant in any negative way to JV - who I both rate& am very happy we have.

His header, and the shot just before his goal were good as well. I think he would get a fair few goals between now and the end of the season for us.

Did we score today? Last week? Are we not the lowest scorers in the league?

I'm very happy with having Vaughan, Easter & Iversen. But Counago plays so deep most weeks - its hard to consider him a striker, and I had heard Andrew was heading out on loan.

I think the difference between Phillips and the strikers we have is that he has a very good goal scoring record at this level.

Would LOVE it but wouldn't happen in a million years.

The kind of player that runs the show and can be worth 10+ points a season for a team.

As if when we sign Phillips we're going to start scoring loads..

PLEASE

We need midfielders, wingers, a left back, possibly a center back as well. But no, let's sign this 37 year old on big wages that hasn't done shit for 2 years in the hope that he will turn our season around. Oh wait, that didn't work with DAVIDS, I doubt it will work now.

He has scored 251 goals in 549 games. He has only played 2 full games (and 7 as sub) in the 2010-11 season and got 2 goals. In 2009-10 he played 4 full games (20 as sub) and got 4 goals. In 2008-09 he played 25 full games (13 as sub) and got 14 goals (his last season at this level).

IMO the bloke is a natural goalscorer and yes I think he would get goals for us.
