Febian Brandy from ManUre? Wasn't he classed as a "wonderkid" once?

He has a worse goalscoring record than Matt Lawrence.
Plus the press would have a field day with the alleged problem of our manager if we signed him.

How about:

Gary McSheffrey

couldnt afford his wages, was on a fair bit at hull

Harewood would be on loads, but if we could get him on a reasonable wage id be happy with that. - At this level

GreatGonzo
18-06-2010, 12:40 PM
Others

Wilfred Bouma, probably go oversees but again on low wages at LB?

Thomas Browne from Reading is pictured in an England shirt, wonder what level that was. Again a LB.

Stephen Caldwell? CB

Capaldi mentioned elsewhere a sa LB option - may have lost his way a bit though.

Could Lee Carsley do a year for us in CM?

Big Blue Eagle
18-06-2010, 12:44 PM
Bouma has been injured for nearly a year. Kerrea Gilbert from Arsenal was also on their - now that could be interesting.

couldnt afford his wages, was on a fair bit at hull

He's only going to get as much as people are willing to pay now. Sure its a bargaining tool for him to say 'Well I'm not accepting that, I was on xk a week at Hull.' But at the end of the day it is highly highly unlikely he is going to get anywhere near what he was on at Hull.

Could Lee Carsley do a year for us in CM?

Didn't he move to Brum so his son (who has some sort of disability) could go to a really good school?

Pretty sure I read that somewhere. Good enough for the premiership for another year imo, in the Championship he would be a class act.

GreatGonzo
18-06-2010, 12:51 PM
couldnt afford his wages, was on a fair bit at hull

His wages are 0, if he wants work, it only matters what someone will offer him, and we will see this summer more players looking for work than clubs looking. A few players will be taking BIG pay-cuts to keep playing in this country.

18-06-2010, 12:57 PM
I got a feeling that Ben Burgess could be snapped up. Typical lump that we like up front. Chilvers formerly of Preston could be good backup for the centrebacks

Wouldnt mind Ashdown if the worse was to happen and Jules moved on. Wages again could be an issue

18-06-2010, 01:01 PM
Salif Diao used to be a good player.

Kerrea Gilbert is a good shout, remember some great runs he made for Arsenal, a nice attacking full back in this league.

Harry Bassett
18-06-2010, 01:08 PM
based upon that list being a goalkeeper is not a good career choice.

GreatGonzo
18-06-2010, 01:10 PM
Anthony Jack, 18 year old winger from Spurs rings a bell but cannot think why.

Robert Kozluk for LB if we just want a few months cover?

Gavin Mahon for CM? Basically he and Derry swap clubs.

GreatGonzo
18-06-2010, 01:27 PM
James McEverley is a reasonable LB in this league.

Would McSheffrey play left wing? he prefrs up front doesn't he? But would be a good signing for whoever wins the wages battle.

Carlo Nash out of contract too.

Roy O'Donovan we were linked with when he went to SUnderland.

Franck Queudrue i have mentioned elsewhere

GreatGonzo
18-06-2010, 01:34 PM
Guess Paul Scharner will stay in the prem or go abroad.

Lewwis Spence is available ;)

Riccardo Vaz Te - had so much potential but been ruined by injuries.

Jan Vennegoor of Hassalink - just think of teh income from shirt sales

Nicky Weaver as back up keeper?

Sounds like someone they would have nicked from Crewe!

Rob Kozluk was linked with us whilst Warnock was manager, not a bad player.

Mahon is also a fairly decent shout, but I don't think we would need him.

Gilbert was easily the stand-out worst player in a poor cup game v Leicester last year (or year before last), looked Sunday League at best. Awful distrubution, fell over a couple of times too IIRC. Obviously this was only one game and whether this is indicative of his ability who knows, anyone seen him in other games?

One off there who may be worth giving a trial to is Roy O'Donovan.

His Irish B and U21 caps would suggest that he has ability. Looks like he may have had his problems at Sunderland, but did well in a loan spell, albeit at a lower level last season.

Three names of interest. Keigan Parker, was at Oldham. Only 27 and played very well in League one for Blackpool. Anderson Silva ( Barnsley), quick witted & skillful midfielder who knows where the goal is and Simon Whaley, whose career seems to have nose dived , now not even needed at Chesterfield but still only in his mid twenties and was pretty useful at Preston and Bury. All of these could be good players for us given the right coaching.

i looked through a few pages of the list. I don't have any names that haven't already been mentioned. What I think it does show though is that a good manager in the championship with a well established scouting network could add 5 or 6 players and create a promotion team.

Distinction here between "injured in the past" (Clint Hill) and "injury prone" (Darren Anderton). McSheffery looks like an injury prone one to me. However, if he's willing to prove he isn't - for free (or on a trainee wage) then he could come and train for a while and try to earn a contract, sure.

So many decent players still not fixed up.

Lot of cat and mouse going on with clubs - the longer things drag on, the less players can demand.

Similarly with the 25-man squad limit in the PL; there will be a glut of transfers and loans at the end of the month.
