Depends on how much you trust Wikipedia I guess. Says he moved to London when he was two months old.

Doubt he really had that much time to get used to the place!

4 goals and 10 assists last season, on a free would be a good option wide.

not a massive fan of him but a free on low wages might be alright, 2 yr deal or something

says he made his debut against us the day we got relegated from the prem.

Its nice to be linked with getting players in, wonder when we will be linked with paying a sensible fee for a player and then actually sign them?

He had an interview with Sky Sports a few days ago about being out of contract and his plans for the future:

Would be happy with this signing.

very true

surely this couldn't be another Charlton diamond about to slip through their fingers and into the grateful arms of Palace? ;)

No, the clown players improve when they join us. For those who've left for Raynes Park Queenies the only way is downhill.

That's true, but for every free bargain winger like Ambrose, there's a free completely ineffectual winger like Ryan Smith.

I think Lloyd Sam would end up closer to the latter.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

Agreed. But Burley oviously rates him so its up to him.

tricky winger, not too sure on how much end product there is with him. That said, he is on a free, a good age and has experience at Championship / League 1 level so would be worth taking on board, providing wages are sensible.

GreatGonzo
28-06-2010, 02:55 PM
Wouldn't be top of my transfer targets but then not many free transfers are. Would offer good cover if nothing else. If GB wants to play 4-4-2 the wide areas are the area we need most numbers.

Dobbo - history tells us that players that are seen as rubbish from our friends in SE7, perform well for palace. Paddy wasn't fancied, Ambrose was a luxury no team in our league (or one below) could afford. Humphrey didn't turn out to be that bad, and whenever they have tried to mug us for players (Svensson & Sorondo spring to mind) they don't seem to "deliver" either.

4 of the goals were last season when he managed 10 assists. Contributed to 14 of the 71 goals they scored, that 1 in 5.

Is Elliott Bennett from Brighton a winger? He might be useful, but on a free transfer you won't get anyone who performed better (goals and assists) last year on a free transfer i don't think.

I'm not going to write him off, as he is still fairly young. Worth noting that our last two Charlton 'rejects' have done well.

Although he has produced some form in League One, I don't think he had much impact in the Championship. Worth looking at though, even if we didn't sign him.

The clown fans I know thought Paddy McCarthy was the worst centre back they'd ever seen at the club, and that Ambrose was lazy and only ever scored "flukey" goals. :bash: They don't rate Sam that much either, so let's sign him up ASAP !!! :p

Tbf he's looked far and away one of their best players imo whenever I've seen them play.

Two things about Lloyd Sam. Not sure if they've been mentioned (well I'd be surprised if someone had mentioned the first one).

1. I played against him twice when we were both 17.
2. He made is debut against us in the 2-2 draw at the Valley that relegated us.

We are still paupers so can't expect to get the best talent on offer in the lower leagues. Glad to be linked strongly with anyone at the moment though! Nicky Bailey would be my pick of the Clowns given the choice or Thierry Racon.

It's somewhat of a shame, now that Charlton are in the same division as us, that we didn't exploit their lower league status by signing loads of their players, barely playing them, and then letting them go for peanuts like we used to do to Millwall.

Yankeagle
24-05-2012, 02:11 AM
I think he would be a fantastic signing for us.

On a free transfer, no less. He's young enough, can play both wings, so could rotate with Zaha, and is pacy as hell. He also tore it up in League One for Notts County, scoring 5 in 10 games as a winger. He's clearly good enough for the Championship. This would be a great signing I believe.

Little highlight video of his time at Leeds.

Did you actually watch that? As highlight reels go that was awful - or at least the minute and a half I actually got through

Yankeagle
24-05-2012, 04:36 AM
I'd actually apologize to those thinking it was a highlight reel, it's not. It's just positive moments on the game he has had for leeds. There's very little end product in the entire video, but his dribbling, crossing and pace is something to be watched in that video.

CPFC_R_GREAT
24-05-2012, 06:41 AM
Watching that makes you realise just how much better Zaha is. Similar end product, but Wilf is twice as fast and infinity better at dribbling.

Jay_eagle

yes please, I rate him and on a free this would be a great signing.

Ard
24-05-2012, 07:08 AM
The end product is what we desperately need though. We only have Ambrose capable of providing assists on a regular basis. Saying that - we definitely need wingers, and would definitely take one who could find the net himself

sydnsteve
24-05-2012, 11:10 AM
We also have Williams. Ambrose is unfortunately a very mixed bag nowadays. I hope a close season gets him more consistent.
