CRYSTAL Palace manager George Burley will be casting his eye over at least three trialists when the Eagles take on Crawley in their first pre-season friendly tomorrow.
Former Chelsea academy product Liam Bridcutt, 21, will feature at Broadfield Stadium, along with two full-backs, one from Portugal and one from France.

Just wikied Liam

"Liam moved to Stockport County on loan until January 2010[6] and was sent off on his debut in the 4–2 win at Brighton & Hove Albion."

If thats the case, sign him up. Hopefully it was a two-footed lunge.

No mention of the striker

We have only 2 fit full backs with contracts, 1 winger compared to a few srtikers, lots of centre mids and only 3 centrebacks.

Think Burley is concerntrating on the areas of squad with least depth. Bridcutt is meant to be a defensive midfielder i thought and we lack one fo those.

Yeah, why not? He is a fairly decent player. The only thing I really see against him is that he is an ageing premier player, so may demand high wages, but he was released so is not earning anything right now - he may play for less than previously and his experience must be a plus, if it comes without a massive salary tag.

Not to say they have only been released from an English club, they could easily be coming from Europe, but the PFA free transfer list has 3 French & no Portugeuse full backs showing as available: -

Mounir El Haimour - French - 29 year old left back - released by Barnsley
Franck Queudrue - French - 31year old left back - released by Birmingham
Mikael Silvestre - french - 32 year old left back - released by Arsenal (somehow dont think so!!!)

Really?

How many Full backs do we have?
How many Centre backs do we have?
How many Wingers do we have?
How many defensive midfielders do we have?

Strikers we could do with 1 or 2 more but comparitively we are better stocked there than any othe rposition apart from attacking/centre midfielders.

I think Queudrue is highly over rated and would command the sort of wages we should be offering to a 31 year old full back. He's caused trouble before as well I think. I will support most players in a Palace shirt and should we sign Queudrue I would certainly not boo or be negative, I would just prefer we went for an alternative target. Anyway what do I know!

When it says "one from Portugal and one from France," perhaps it means someone who's been playing in those respective leagues, rather than a national playing over here.

Edit - Just seen BB's post, beat me to it by weeks.

Yes, but Premiership teams don't loan out their youngsters unless the team who gets the player promises to play them regularly. They don't want the kid acting as cover because the Premiship team gets no benefit.

2 fit full backs (Hills mid season) 1 at the mo as Clyne is away with England
2 Centre backs, McCarthy and Barratt (Davis in Jamaica still?)
1 Winger, Djilali (Cadogan is too much of a push - who else were you thinking?
DM is the area we are in desperate need

Strikers - Lee, Scannell, Andrew

Of all of those right now striker is the only position apart from CM, that we have more than the minimum requirements to put out a 4-4-2

We need more in all areas but CM but more important areas than striker, especially as a couple of our CM's are adept at playing in behind a lone striker.

GreatGonzo

Fuingers are crossed for Scannell in a 4-4-2. certainly at youth level he did the business and he has been wasted playing a lot of football out wider and has looked ineffective. A run of games playing through the middle, playing off Alan Lee and we might see a different player.

The only problem Rémy had was when Djilali screamed "AWAY, AWAY" at him so he'd clear it but obviously his English wasn't very good so he left it to go off, expecting a goal kick and then looked perplexed when it was a corner.

Remy (3) - big and strong, reasonably comfortable on the ball. Dealt with most of the defending he had to do - got caught out a couple of times, but seeing how little time they have had together you can understand the back 4 being slightly disjointed. Worth more of a look at.

Morgan (11) - didn't really seem to get involved, which seems strange for a trialist as you would have thought they'd be looking to impress - especially in an attacking position. We looked better going forward when we had our kids on, but theat could be because they have played together more, and Crawley were waning. Again, I'd have more of a look.

Bruno (12) - looked great to start with, good touch and always looked to find a team mate with the ball. Got forward well and tried to get crosses in, including one exquisite first timer on the run. Seemed to get complacent as the half wore on and a couple of lackadaisical passes almost got us into trouble but that could also be because Julian and the other defenders aren't used to playing it out from the back. If we are going to play like that he could be a good find.

Bridcutt (20) - sign him up. If Burley wants to keep the ball on the ground I think this kid looked the real deal. Sure he is small and will get muscled off the ball, but he had the movement and vision to find time and space to pick passes. Having watched Spain all summer and thought that Iniesta wouldn't make it out of under 14s in this country, I'd love to see us give him a go.

I saw Morgan play a couple of times for MK Dons last season. Based just on those two games (which isn't necessarily fair) he didn't appear up to League 1 level, so I'd be surprised if he could hit the standard we would need.

He's the son in law of Brian Stein, by the way.

Just too add.

PALACE boss George Burley had two foreign trialists in action at Crawley last night - Frenchman Remi Mareval and Portuguese Bruno Simao.

The pair, both left-backs, played 45 minutes of the 1-0 defeat at the Broadfield Stadium.

Maravel, 27, was at Nantes Atlantique last season and has a spell with Oldham in 2004.

LOL it's all a matter of perspective I suppose. I thought Bruno was the best of the triallists but got tired at the end hence the mistakes. He had a bit of a spark about him.

I thought Reme was alright, nothing to write home about. Has anybody mentioned his shot that went off for a throw in?

I didn't see anything in Bridcutt. I'm bemused why people here are saying we should sign him up? And he's so ickle too and came on when Crawley were throwing their stiffs on.

I thought Morgan was competent. Good work out.

But it was only a very early pre-season friendly. I wouldn't consider Dorman a player based on that performance yet it wasn't representative of what he achieved in Scotland.
