Huddersfield have approached Leicester with a 300,000 offer for 34-year-old striker Steve Howard.

Old but cheap.

Could do a job for us if needed. Good championship player

As cool as it would be to have my name on the back of a Palace shirt, I really hope we don't go near him.

And 300k  Oh my!

Please no. Good player in his day, but at this level, that was a while back now. 300k is also a lot for a 2nd tier journeyman of that age (albeit a good one), and there will probably be a two year contract on decent wages to go with it.

Doesn't make much sense to me

I like to think of the Crystal Palace of 2010 sort of like Logan's Run. Once they hit 30, a little light starts glowing on their hand to let them know its time to go ...

If they can't be resold, no

Taking on Steve Howard may mean having to play to his strengths, plenty of balls played in the air,he's still got goals in him but whether its at Championship level,i'm not convinced any more......Seems the majority of you ar'nt either,Huddesfield it is then.;)

A journeyman of questionable talent nearing the end of his career. Errr.... and they want... money for him?? I wouldn't take him on a free.

Exactly the sort os signing we have been crying out for NOT happening any more.

I thought this guy was great at Champ level with Luton a few decades ago but as they say a great future behind him.

Take one tablespoon of no, add a sprinkle of no and then add some diced no, leave in the oven for no minutes and hey presto, you have a lovely big No

Howard lost any pace he ever did have long ago and is now perhaps looking
for semi-retirement after a long hard career. Think these kind of players
are usually known as "journeymen". He is certainly not the kind of player
Palace need to add to their payroll.

Alan Lee wdoes the same job as him..

anyway, we need PACE and a fox in the box type player. David Villa would do just fine.

Agree
Remember beign quite impressed with him when Luton got promoted to the CCC in 2005/06 - he gave our defenders a torrid time on the opening day of the season.
Since then what little I've seen of him has been some distance off impressive - we shouldn't be interested if he was free, as for paying 300K plus, never in a million years.

he would have been useful 4-5 years ago. A presence upfront, a bit like Geoff Horsfield, someone who could chip in with 10-15 goals a season and hold the ball up. Now, he would be no use, unless he was free.

In Alan Lee we already have our target man. No need for another.

For Huddersfield he's perfect, a big man to partner the little, pacy Jordan Rhodes, with the likes of Scott Arfield supporting from midfield. They'll challenge Southampton and Wednesday for promotion this season.

As said, we've got the big man, what we need is our own Jordan Rhodes-type man.

Howard scored 2 tonight on our Slovenian tour, also set up DJ Campbell to score his 2nd in two games.

Pre-season games to date,

Lost 1-4,
Won 5-2 tonight.......12 goals in two games.   Shades of Ardiles managing Tottenham.

Better take my own advice, its pre-season and too early to read into anything at this stage.
