Its someone he wants to have a look at playing so unlikely to be anyone like Koren who he would know can play and would not need a trial. African, South American or Asian teams more likely than Aussie or American, this is like the good old Bert Head days when we were encouraged to come along to see the mystery new buy (Terry Wharton was unveilled in that way). I just hope they let us know the real name on Saturday!

Could he be looking at Chris Wood from WBA, a loan move wouldn't be bad...

I hope for this guy; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%B8ren_Larsen

Know him from when he played in Sweden and could absolutley do a good job for us. Strong on the head and pretty decent scoring record.

So? No manager would be foolish enough not to give a player a trial and just sign him up, and I doubt 2010 would agree to signing him without a trial.

There were a handful of Free agents at the World Cup. And anyway, because they're on trial doesn't mean they are a free agent ? If they are at a club it is likely they will be a smaller Nation/Team.

Realistically it could be any Kiwi/Aussie/South African etc, doesn't have to be a free-agent.

Burley has said he's looking for a playmaker. Simon Elliott is exactly that and out of contract although I think he's about 36. But he impressed me when playing for New Zealand at the World Cup.

He had a two-year spell at Fulham (2006-08) and was always injured.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Elliott - if you look at his career, at no stage has he ever played consistently.

Players from countries outside the EU will need to pull major strings to gain a work permit.

It might be the yank who plays in Norway, who is out of contract soon, that one of the regular posters on here has mentioned. A central defender, i think.

FA rules on work permits as follows -

1. A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive “A” team matches he was available for selection, during the 2 years preceding the date of the application;

2. The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA World Rankings when averaged over the 2 years preceding the date of the application; and

3. The application for a GBE must be made by a club in membership of the Premier League or Football League and the player will only play for clubs in membership of those leagues.

If you mean Goodson then there is no way he will go on trial on Saturday. He has a league match on Sunday. No way the club will let him go to London for a trial now.

Could easily be a player from Ghana or South Africa.

I liked the look of Addy - the young centre back for Ghana - 20 years old, plays for a Ghanaian local team.

I hope it's him.

I know for a fact (I won't say where from) that Demerit asked Watford for a staggering sum to re-sign for them. If he is still sticking to that, or anywhere near it, you can knock him off the list of possibles.

Surely FA rule 2 would hinder us signing a Kiwi (or South African or North Korean) -

2. The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA World Rankings when averaged over the 2 years preceding the date of the application;

Blackburn appealed when they tried to sign Ryan Nelsen and succeeded -

Nelsen was successfully awarded a work permit when Blackburn launched an appeal after the initial application had been refused due to New Zealand being ranked outside the top 70 in the FIFA World Rankings.

NZ are currently ranked 54 but their average from the past two years is more around the 80 mark.

With these rules in place, how have Man City, Oldham, Hibernian, Celtic and Middlesbrough all signed Chris Killen over the last 11 years?

By the way, Boro released Killen and so he is available. I really hope it isn't him...

Realistically it could be any Kiwi/Aussie/South African etc, doesn't have to be a free-agent.

Could also be a player from one of the smaller EU countries, where work permits are not an issue.

Slovakia, Slovenia, Greece all spring to mind.
