I'd rather have Murphy on a permanent deal.

Murphy doesn't have age on his side where as Halls would. I imagine he played with Julian and Tommy and we could be onto another bargain. Just my opinion.

Just checking, is this a suggestion or a rumour?

The "story" emanates from "Sunday Mirror" Sport's Chat Zone(24.3.02) as follows: "Arsenal defender John Halls - sent off in his only first team game for the Gunners - is in line for a 300,000 move to Crystal Palace. Selhurst Park boss Trevor Francis needs defensive cover with Tony Popovic and Kit Symons injured." Details from Rothman's 2001/2 Yearbook: John Halls (Defender) H. 6.0 W. 11.00 b Islington 14.2.82;source: scholar. Honours: England Youth. 2000/1 Arsenal:
No appearances, No goals.
See this signing, if it materialises, as a quality replacement for one of the many young defenders recently departed, who were unable to break into the First team squad.

I guess this signals the end for Austin and Berhalter...

I thought he was outstanding on Saturday.

I'd be very suprised if this happens, I thought Arsenal rated him quite highly as a good one for the future, I remember hearing Tom Watt talking about him and he said he felt he should be much further up the pecking order at Arsenal now, certainly ahead of Stepanovs, Luzhny etc..

Don't rule it out.

If my memory serves me correct, didn't Tom Watt also sing the praises of messrs Gray and Black whilst they were both still Gooners?

My point being here is that the lad Halls must be way down the pecking order for a first team place. Arsenal have had plenty of defensive injuries, yet he still has not had sniff of first team action.

More of concern is the fact that Arsenal are now reluctant to do business with us due to us "messing them about" in the past.

What's wrong with Murphy on a Bosman AND Halls for 300K?

If Berhalter goes and Austin stays that is still only 5 centre backs - we've seen this season how easy it is to lose more than one.

BTW - anybody know when Murphy's second month runs out? If we don't extend the loan again by thursday I think he misses the last couple of games.

Absolutely :p

Halls has done well in Arsenal's reserves and was unlucky to get sent off in his one first team outing (source, an Arsenal mate).

Did he get sent off, while not on the field?
Quote: Sent off in his only first team game for the Gunners", yet also "No appearances"

Excellent piece of research by the Sunday Mirror:eek:

I don't think that would be a problem - not now - our chairman is getting older and wiser by the day.

If there was anything in this (which I doubt) the price seems reasonable if he's as good as suggested.

I remember Malcolm Allison buying Steve McKenzie from us for 250,000 before he'd ever played for our first team - and that was in about 1978!
