With Beckham out, perhaps Sven is looking for someone who has the same talent as Beckham.
Apart from Beckham, there is not one person you could name in the England squad with the ball control Matt has.

B0llocks is Jansen better than Beckham.

Jansen, whilst being a good player, is not good enough for the full England team.

Given the experience, Matty will develop into a world class player.

I did not say Jansen was better than Beckham.I said apart from Beckham, no one in that England squad has as much natural talent as Matt Jansen when he has the ball at his feet apart from Joe Cole who probably wont go to the World Cup anyway.

Jaffa, i've often spoken out about ex-Palace players objectively - if they are pants, regardless of CPFC service, then i'll say so. Matt Jansen is one of the most talented players this club has ever had and the only surprise to me is that it's taken this long for him to get called up.
It's not goal scoring (although he's been unlucky this season), it's his all round play where he is clearly a class above. Jaffa, take a check on his OPTA stats for this season - it's a good guide because they measure everything, and this season in a crap team he's scored as high as:

Owen, Shearer, Di Canio, Kanoute, Pahars, Fowler, Boksic, Phillips, Wiltord, Gudjohnsen, Bergkamp, Viduka, Solskjaer.........to name a few

The only players much higher than the main pack are Henry, Hasselbaink, Van Nistelrooy and Robert.

My sentiments entirely. People forget that he was still a teenager when he signed for us. After Bright and Wright he's certainly the most talented striker we ever had, and he's at the age where he has every chance of having a more illustrious career than those two.

Pi$$ off Jaff, you suck the big one. It's been too long and he fully deserves to be in the squad. Lets hope he will play as well as we all know he can.

Go eat some pies jaff man

Totally deserved.

4 years ago in a quite pissed state I had a 20 bet with a Chelsea fan that Matty would play for England in the 2002 World Cup. After writing off the money, I've suddenly got some hope again.

Couldn't he even be the answer to England's famous "left side" problems?

Shame they couldn't find a big target man to try out - that way, we might actually achieve the impossible and get Heskey the lummox out of the squad.

I freely admit he is a good player, the most naturally talented YOUNGSTER, with the exception of Forsell, that I have seen up him in my formative years.

However, I dont think that he should play for the full England team, as I believe better exists. Maybe 2006, but not now.

Really pleased for Matty, player with bundles of ability, still remember him not celebrating when he scored against us and also turning and holding the play up when he could have got on and maybe made it 2-0. Hope he takes his chance.:p

But Jaffa, he's 22/3 now, he should be introduced to international football. Why wait - he has the talent without a doubt - a footballer with a brain, just what we need.

Matt Jansen is without a doubt THE most naturally gifted skillful footballer I have ever seen.

Bar none.
