Any Sydney based Palace have any ideas for a place to watch the England / Ireland games? The kick - off times seem to be very condusive to heavy drinking (urgh). I seem to remember watching England V Argentina in One World Sport in '98- which was rammed but ok.

Any of you ex Pats / Aussies up for it?

I'm gonna be back in Sydney with a couple of Palace mates for the World Cup now due to work commitments.

We're thinking about that World of Sport place.

G'day Thatch,

Congratulations on the new addition to the family.

I should be OK for the England/Argie Bargie game next Friday night. Should be a good game. I made a bet with the Argentian guy at work that England was gonna beat his team. His been bragging about his team for the last month. I want England to wipe that smug grin from his face. With the proceeds of my bet I think I'll buy an English flag to hang up over his desk !

Catch ya.

I've been doing some research of the area and apparently The Charles Dickens Tavern at 290 Collins St in the city will be a good place to attend. It's an English pub apparently.

There is also a pub called P.J. O'Briens at Southbank (near Casino). This is an Irish pub and the place was rocking the night the British Lions played here.

Failing that just head to the Casino.

One World Sport was absolutely packed full of poms, with around ten or so Palace - all coincidentally squeezed into the same corner - filling any silences with chants of 'Eagles', 'Walking Down the Holmesdale Road', and 'The Famous Alan Mullery'.

Nice.

The Charles dickens hotel, will be horribly overcrowded for sure. agree re pj obriens for the irish games at least. i personally hate the casino, and dont like the atmosphere there.

i'm going to be in the keepers arms hotel, north melbourne, with about 20 workmates, tis on the corner of peel and queensberry, from 6.30 pm onwards for the argentina game. get there early enough and you might even get a seat, but doubt if you would be able to see the game sitting down. lol

less than one kilometre from where i live, :) pity i never knew of your visit as i could have fast tracked you to the better places to visit in melbourne, like Fitzroy the very cosmopolitan and arty area with heaps of the finest restaurants in melbourne, with the italian suburb of Carlton adjacent. (which is where i'm heading to rub it in their noses if england win on friday nite, hehe hopefully Lygon street here i come).
