Sorry about the long title.

I was having long hard think(something of a rarity for me) and I couldnt think of any other Palace players who have gone to a World Cup whilst still at Palace.

Is this a club record??

I was wondering the same thing earlier today. I can't think of any player. Houghton signed for us sometime before transfer deadline in the 94-95 season so wouldn't have been with us for '94.

What?

Woody was out of the reckoning by 1986 and Rash was at Notts County by 1982.

I am happy to confirm that The President and Greg will be the first.

Although it is more likely that Greg will beat the President to lay claim to be the first player on June 5th. assuming he is still a Palace player by then.

The next best thing I suppose was with Kenny playing for England at the 1980 European Championships. He was a Palace player at the time.

Although he was never to pull on a Palace shirt again.

Except for Len Chatterton's testimonial in August 1987......

Palace were going to sign Kennet Andersson just before USA '94 but decided to wait till after.

Cue Andersson having a blinding tournament thus meaning Palace had no hopes of signing him. Ane he went to Italy instead. It could have all been so different......

Not sure, but I think Johnny Byrne might have made it before his transfer to West Ham

He certainly played for England, but not in a world cup.

Isn't it more likely to be Berhalter who will be the first Palace player to play at the world cup for Palace. Clinton will be lucky to be brought on as a sub in just one of their games.

Teddy Lucic (Sweden) was also linked to us. A player who had a good tournament was Tomas Brolin ;) I remember a lot of that world cup.

When thinking about Kennet Anderson it always reminds me that instead of Anderson we got Andy Preece.

Always makes me laugh when thinking about what the meeting was like that day, "Oh OK we can't get one of the world's leading players from the World Cup....I know lets go for that 2nd Division guy from Stockport who's cheap".

:(

Where was the middle ground Palace :grrr:

Berhalter might not be in the US first XI, although I think he deserves to play in the first match against Portugal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Clint were the #3 striker for Ireland -- an injury could get him in to the first XI, and I suspect he'll come on as a sub in one of the first 2 matches.

And Berhalter could no longer be a Palace player by June! BTW, we should keep him.

Of course it would! Has anybody got the odds on Clint getting the Golden Boot?

Im sure Clinton is now the 3rd choice striker, and will come off the bench - If Ireland are happy with the way a games going theyll take off Quinn to rest him. If doing badly, theyll need to throw on another striker.

Hey, I've just won after investing each way on him to win Div One Golden Boot so who's to say he can't do it again.

Certainly betting each way gives you an interest. It does tend to be star men who win the actual golden boot (Suker '98, Stoichkov jointly in '94, Rossi '82, Lineker '86 etc) but there's normally an unknown who gets in the frame for a share of the each way money and, at 250/1, Clinton would still be a decent pay out even if he he had a three or four way share for second place on say, 4 goals. Unlikely but then who had heard of Roger Milla prior to Italia '90 or Scilacci (who the thing that year) for that matter.

Hernadez for Mexico at the last World Cup proves you can still get a few goals playing for medium opposition and not even progressing that far.

Which firm are offering 250/1? Is any firm offering more than 250/1?
