Yeah it was Winothai.

They had him and 3 other Thai players on a training camp or something like that and wanted him to sign on but I think he will be signing a 3 year pro deal at Palace!

Nothing new - I suspect this is related to Teratreep Winothai (or is it Terrateep ? - I forget !)

That's hardly fair. Jansen chose us ahead of Man Utd and by all accounts loved his time here. He did really well for us and didn't want to leave - we sold him to Blackburn when we were getting into the financial deep ****. Don't get me started on this cos I hate thinking of all the class players that we sold during that time......:grrr:

its good that we have some hot young players coming through - so we can make a bit from them as well as getting us up

I think the spelling is Teeratep Winothai

There's an old article dated Oct 20001 on him here (http://www.footballculture.net/players/int_teeratep.html) which confirms he did sign a 3 year scholarship agreement with us.

If it was on the radio.. they might have been talking about Matt Jansen being left out of the squad rather than a Palace youth team player..

On 'The Players' last week, they said that Man Utd were after our Youth Goalkeeper, (cronin??).
This seems more likely to me!!!

Quite correct! Lance Cronin turned down offers from Man Utd., also A.Villa and Southampton in order to sign for Palace. He is a fine young keeper who will be 17 in September.

At least Lance will get a sniff of first team bench warming in the next couple of seasons with a good chance of progress from there by staying at Palace. I think the days of the top Prem clubs giving the kids a chance are gone now - they are under huge pressure from their accountants to keep delivering European footie via league success. Hence if they need to fill a position they will buy a "name" in.

Take Diego Forlan. 7million plus, no goals in 18 games or so, and all this with a very promising youngster named Danny Webber on the books.

Lets hope the 2002-3 reserve team features more of our talented youth players.
