Anyone having a flutter? Not that I want to encourage gambling or anything but I'll having a small outlay - just to spice things up a bit.

So I went to William Hill at lunchtime...

2 Ireland v England final 200-1
1 Ireland to win WC 80-1
2 Ireland to win group 4-1

Have I just wasted 5????

I think that Owen to finish top scorer at 11-1 is pretty good.

Any tips or interesting bets worth having a look at?

You can geyt better odds on England if you bet abroad. Anyone know any good foreign bettin websites (not Paddypower).

I saw Hakan Sukur of Turkey at about 66-1 for golden boot in the paper at the weekend. Bear in mind they've got Costa Rica and China in their group and could be playing Belgium or Russia in the next round.

In last 4 or 5 World Cups the golden boot winner hasn't actually come from the winners:

1998 Davor Sukor - Croatia
1994 Some Russian - Russia (who scored 5 in one game)
1990 Schilachi (sp?) - Italy
1986 Line-aker - I forget
1982 I was only 8 and don't remember

94 was tied between Oleg Salenko, Hristo Stoickov and romario, think they all got five goals.

82 was Paolo Rossi

I've bet on ronaldo 16/1
Zidane e/w 100/1
Beckham e/w 100/1

This was a couple of months ago, so odds have changed a bit. Each way bet is first five places with William Hill which could mean that someone scoring 3 or 4 goals will win you money.

If your going to bet on England, owen etc try using euro bet, much better odds than Ladbrookes or william hill.

Just bet against England in the Quarter finals and you cannot go wrong.:)

Balls to nationality when money is involved.

But remember that dead heat terms apply if more than one person scores 3 or 4 goals, drastically reducing your returns:sob:
