......has been released by Dundee.

TF and Simon said they were looking for free transfers. Expect a "swoop" for the Argentinian.

Don't forget. You read it here first.

I take it you have some sort of source or is this pure speculation?

I hope it is true because I always rated Walter. Doubt he would return after the shabby way he was treated by us before.

Walter Del Rio!!!- One of the defining moments of the Goldberg era, heard so many stories about that transfer money going missing and goldberg being taken for the ultimate mug and the like, anyone know what the truth was?

Oh well at least Jaffa rated him!

Ah so it was a joke. That much wasnt immediately clear. Still, an opportunity to poke fun.

Anyway, yes I did rate Del Rio, always thought he looked quite cultured, and he was absolutely shabbily treated by Palace - he was a foreigner to the country and was left homeless at one point.

Didn't they do the 'Macarena'? :D

Does anyone else remember the rumours that we were signing fatman Maradona and then got Del Rio?:D How surreal it would have been to have seen an overweight Maradona and an verweight Brolin playing together for Palace?

I agree, I thought he was pretty good. His treatment was typical of the cowboy Venables/Goldburg outfit running Palace at the time.

Well it was clear to the rest of us, but I'll stop teasing you now to ask a serious question, how many times did you see Del Rio play?

I saw his debut up at Barnsley. Looked cool and assured in the warm up. On the pitch he was very slow paced. Didn't make a tackle (too slow, not because he wasn't trying) and wanted ages on the ball before he released it. He kept going is all I could say positively, but it was his first UK match. We also got thumped at least 4-0 I think, with big Herman surely playing his worst ever game at left back for us.

He never quite adapted to the pace but i thought he did get better the more games he played

The guy is LOVED at Dundee! The fans rate him so much. Apparantlyt he is very solid. I know its not a great league but still wort a trial? Must be down to financial issues or something why they have let him go

The more games he played? Did he play any more games after the 0-4 debute? I recall him coming on as sub late in the game on a Sunday, and that's about it, as far as I remember.

Must cinfess to be a bit surprised that a thread that started as a joke has developed into a serious debate about his worth. Ah well, it is the close season, I suppose.
