View Full Version : Crystal Ball Sunderland A.F.C v Swansea City

Actually think Sunderland will win this one. Last home game of the season with several players ‘on show’ for continuation of their Premier League career, and a couple of wins may see them finish off the bottom.

All the pressure is on Swansea to win with a draw at the very least.

Would a Sunderland win make us 100% safe, no question about it, no doubt, etc.?

No. But it would require an absurd swing in GD across the three remaining games to see us relegated - one that is well outside the realms of reasonable doubt.

So, not 100% safe, but 99.99999%.

I reckon a draw, just to keep us sweating that bit more!

Where Swanseas form has improved of late is the need to fight there way out of the bottom three, nothing to lose. Going in to the Sunderland game they suddenly have a place outside of the relegation zone to protect and the psyche for them will be very different compared to what they have been used to in recent weeks. Its huge pressure for Swansea going in to this game, Not too disimiliar in some ways to what we had against Burnley albeit with no room for error. Win and its one foot in the door, lose and your right back in the shit. Add to that a Sunderland side wanting to give their fans a last ptemier league home win on the back of a good victory at Hull, and suddenly this fixture doesn't look like the Swansea easy 3 points people have it down as.

It'll be an interesting one. The toxic atmosphere might have dissipated now their relegation is confirmed, so if Sunderland start well and the crowd get behind them, perhaps they could do us a massive favour. Wouldn't that be nice? I'll have a lot of beers on Saturday evening if they do, that's for sure.

It would be too easy if sunderland won. This looks like a draw at best with us probably losing meaning we will need a win at OT to preserve out status for sure. Mind you it would put Pulis in a quandary if wba look total disinterested as both hull snd us will want them to push swansea all the way

If Swansea win, we need to take inspiration from it and not see it as a sign that we're doomed. They're on a roll at the moment, much as we were - but what happens with them is their business, not ours. If we still need a result after their game, let's just go out and get it. No excuses.

Swansea win - we need a draw ( to survive and relegate Hull)

Swansea draw - we need a draw (to survive and leave hull and Swansea to fight it out)

Swansea lose and we lose there would need to be a 15 goal swing in our last two games and Swansea last game at WBA which is possible but unlikely.

EDIT...... And Hull would need to beat Tottenham on the last day.

I would have taken Sunderland beating one of Hull or Swansea as I was certain Sunderland would lose both games. So, it's not as disastrous as it could be. Imagine going into tomorrow one point in front of Hull and probably thinking we need to win the game to be safe.

Sunderland were always likely to struggle more at home as their fans aren't happy and the atmosphere is corrosive. Plus they are a shit team of course.

We have to put Hull to bed early - get the opening goal and then we can relax a bit and play. If we go 1-0 down I will shit myself.

They will beat Spurs. At home, rocking, playing a team playing for pride only, they'd do what's necessary.

If we lose tomorrow that's it. And the players should be going in with that mentality, treating tomorrow as the last game of the season, holding nothing in reserve for OT. Get the job done - tomorrow.

Yes, as if you have to delude yourself that everything will be ok at all times and not hold an honest opinion based on what you might logically think. And if you don't you aren't supporting the club.

Are you incapable of understanding the difference between worry and concern, and gloating - apparently not because you are unable to understand that simply going "ra ra ra - come on team" is not actually supporting- supporters think and worry and follow every step, every down and every up, the downs make the ups sweeter and the worry is just what comes with the territory.

If you are too emotionally undeveloped to understand that, maybe it would be better if you kept off these threads and just provide encouragement on the matchday thread where, god knows, it is often needed.

When/if we stay up I am willing to bet that those worrying and fretting and working out the unthinkable combinations now will enjoy it more and will taste it sweeter than you will with your mindless unthinking support, (unless underneath that endless putting down and belittling other fans there is someone who is actually as worried and concerned as everyone else).

Exactly..I was gonna say the same thing on another thread..although not as eloquently..
Whilst I'm all for encouragement..we are all different and people have to appreciate that we handle things in our own way. And having a discussion forum should enable people to express themselves accordingly..hopefully without malice.

But for some reason these threads seem to be taken over by the "we're going to be relegated mob". I love Palace as much as the next person but if we get relegated, then we deserve it because we weren't good enough over the season - not just the last few games or the officials hate us.

Look at the 10th Minute thread - that is heartbreaking. Football is only a game. Relegation or not, we will still have an opening day fixture next season.
