When will we make our 1st signing in the the january window ?

We know how we always like to leave it late and then claim its been a real hard window

We all know what we need

when will it happen ?

Or wont it happen ?

Please vote in the poll

And why would it ?

Well I know what I would like but have no way of knowing what and when to expect any additions. And Steve P's notes in tomorrow's program saying he his happy with the squad and January signings will add cover could be interpreted as a bit conservative.

I suspect judging by SP’s programme notes we will only be adding back up to the squad. Personally I think we definitely be getting a striker in and another winger would be good.

Agreed. A loan and a maybe £12m to £15m signing is what I suspect. Plus a few moved on or loaned out.

Optimism is not in Roy’s vocabulary is it .....? HODGSON HUNTS 'RARE PEARL' STRIKER

Roy Hodgson admits signing a striker is Crystal Palace’s top priority during the January transfer window.

“Getting a striker is obviously something we would like because as we’ve seen once again, we can’t do much more in terms of dominating games,” Hodgson said.

“It’s pretty obvious that if we had that person who score goals from nothing, or scores goals from half-chances, we’d be a lot higher up the Premier League and would have won our FA Cup game a lot earlier.

“It’s early days in the transfer window and everybody knows this is a tough transfer window because clubs aren’t eager to let players go if they’re good enough.

“You’re looking for the rare pearl – someone who is good enough who will make us better who at the same time for some reason is being released by their club.”

palacelad197o
10-01-2019, 09:01 PM

But after them we have Liverpool then spurs in the cup and then Southampton so would be nice if we can or try and get anyone in who can play a few games before Southampton

Tbh it seems such a waste to have missed the chance to get someone in. With the Grimsby game it would have allowed a run out or if not a 10 day period to settle in or learn about the club.

OMG. Those comments are worrying. Is he admitting our forwards don't get many chances and he's looking for a miracle worker? Goals from half chances or out of nothing? That's what AT did v City and Luka v Leicester and Wilf v Muggersfield. What we want is a CF who is given decent service from midfield and wingers...simples

SP seemed genuinely chuffed when it appeared we'd moved early in the market a couple of weeks back. After the Solanke thing fell through I honestly thought there'd be some urgent business done to address the goals issue. But no, halfway through the window and we're still waiting - and still missing chance after chance.

Could be a busy two weeks ahead, but I wouldn't bet on it. Why do transfer windows always seem to take us by surprise? :(

Ship players out early, don't sign anyone until 3 weeks later. The estimated wages savings on this and the summer window are huge and allow Palace to meet the financial fair play and compete better for some key top players?

A gamble - especially if a deal fails late for a player we really need ( striker ) or if one of the key players bought in then doesn't deliver.

Even when Palace get it right and have a good team capable of doing something they still seem to be weak in one position or another. In Coppell's time it was at left back. The hapless Lee Sinnott ended up having to fill in there, doing the best he could.

Nice one. Thought id offended someone again. So easy to do on here these days. I liked the old days better when you could call a minger a minger. Wayne Andrews comes to mind.

I interviewed Aki once for the BBS and he told a story about how a teammate (maybe Clinton?) had helpfully advised him that the concept of ‘minging’ was a wholly positive one. So Aki went and told a girl she had a minging jumper and landed himself in mild trouble.

Got to love the bloke.

Methinks we'll only sign the goalkeeper and that'll be that for the January transfer window. COYP!

SP will sign 1 or 2 next week, clubs get desperate to get a few of the wage bill and we save 3 & a half weeks of wages, i reckon GK, Cabaye (Pay as you play/40k) and if we are lucky maybe a striker on loan i can see him & the yanks questioning the need as Big ben and Wickham are back with townsend, zaha, luca all chipping in with goals they might look at it and think its not needed in this moment of time, but fingers crossed

Any word on Cabaye? We'd be stupid to not get him back for the rest of the season I reckon.

I get the feeling we will only sign Perri. I'm hoping the owners have decided to spend big in the summer but they are taking a bit of a chance with assuming RH will keep us up. If they don't spend in the summer I can only conclude the owners MO is survival only, which will eventually fail.

Lets hope so mate. Roy walking away helps nobody. Well apart from Roy. Feck doing all this with both hands tied behind your back at his age. Parish is like an evil care assistant taking away his breakfast before he's had a chance to eat it. Back the old boy ffs.

The image you have inspired in my mind of Parish, in a pink nurse's uniform, snatching away the tray from a dribbling Roy's palsied hands just as he's reaching for the apricot puree in front of re-runs of 'Murder She Wrote' has made me chuckle. A fine antidote to the relentless negging going on around here.

:(The headline of that article is misleading as has already been discussedon here. What Roy said was that he wasn't expecting signings because to be "expecting" them would suggest that they had somebody lined up and were close to securing his signature (which was likely Roy being Roy i.e. contrary/crabby with a journalist) What that headline doesn't point to is that Roy also went on to say that we'd like to sign a striker and midfielder this window.

We might sign the keeper at the last and cheapest moment. No confidence in the club's ability to get anyone else over the line.

It seems unlikely that we would have moved 8 players out but not maybe recruit 2 better first team ready options.

I am not up to speed with all the financial constraints but we must have moved some costs from the wage bill ?

I understand the mood of most but suspect we will have the new GK plus 2 others by deadline day

CB & CW returning adds something and would think that has influenced what we are doing

Also can't see us broadcasting what we are planning to do - there is enough garbage talked in the written press and on Sky.

Just my honest opinion

They must have learned something from previous windows. When we bought Benteke didnt Liverpool effectively have us over a barrel by the end of the window? Had we feigned zero interest and gone in at the last minute we might well have saved a million or two,,,,

Penstone Eagle

Huge gamble, assuming we don't sign one, not signing a striker and rely on Wickham and Benteke staying fit and actually scoring some ******* goals.

As it appears to take 1-2 weeks to sign an untested youth goalkeeper I am thinking that any accepted bids after today will be completed on deadline transfer day at best.

Didn’t Solanke go to Southampton?

Your post is valid, as there isn’t much going on at any clubs, everyone looking to get some value, only if better than they have.

It's always the same with me.

I trust the management of the club. I assume that they know better than us what the club needs. We will make a good signing early on this time.

As the window goes on, I further assume that they have loads of irons in fires, and the lack of news is because we're better than most at doing business behind closed doors.

Then it gets to about now and I start suspecting that we are indeed missing out, and the lack of news is because there is, well, a lack of activity. but I still hold out hope that number 2 is correct.

Then it gets to deadline day and we sign some make-weight loanee or kid nowhere near the first team. It's only then that I realise my trust and faith was misplaced.

So I've been through 1 to 3 now; lets see if 4. happens. :(
