View Full Version : Should We Sign Super Nige on loan?

With Alex injured today (although we don't know how bad it is) and Nigel warming the bench at a club who wants to save some money buy getting rid of a few players, wouls it be worth trying to get him on a loan till the end of the season. We all know that he is a class player and it may be the difference between us getting into the playoffs or not. To me this French guy is an unproven quantity and at least woth Martyn we can be pretty confident in his ability.

What do you think??

I would say "yes", but then you need to remember that:
1) He commands big wages.
2) Leeds are probably justified in keeping him should Robinson get injured.
3) Do you really think Venables would miss a chance to put one over on us?

What?

Also, Robinson has been linked with a move away from Leeds.

I just feel we may need the cover (not that he would be the cover) and the experience of someone like him........and I'm sure he'd want to come back!!!! ;)

What?
04-01-2003, 05:13 PM
Although it is a good idea!

I belive yesterday Robinson, and some of the other bigger and better Leeds players (Fowler as well i think) said that they wouldn't leave the club in the window

Yeah but who is trustworthy in football these days. Leeds as so i n debt that some will have to be sold to balance the books. Bowyer is off it looks like and for a free. I reckon it'll be Man U.

I can't see us moving for him. His wages would be huge and I don't think Leeds would want him to go unless they have another good backup keeper. Would be nice to see him pull on the Palace shirt again though.

But no we shouldnt try and sign him. We would have big wages, and why do we need him we have 3/4 goalkeepers. Ok we have 2 out but no need to spend money we dont have. Lets leave him alone, he's a palace god if he comes back i'm pretty sure he'll disapoint

if kolinko has got a long term injury,we wont go after martyn, his wages will be sky high and leeds need him for cover and there 3rd keeper danny milosevic is out on loan somewhere.i think we will try and sign burnleys NIKOLAOS MICHOPOULAS

kolinko came off with a hamtring injury and maybe out for some time,if thats the case he will sureley bring in another goalkeeper cover for new signing cedric berthelin.apart from that,we have only got youth keeper lance cronin fit.

Why not buy him? Maybe offer some sort of player/coach role? Does he get on with Francis? If so, Leeds are skint, Venables doesn't like him, he doesn't like Venables, Martyn wants to play, he's pushing 37, so not many other Premiership sides are probably banging on his door, playing for us in the 1st Division at least means he's playing and at a fairly high level. The fee? I imagine Leeds would let him go for around the 1 million mark. Surely Jordo can find that?

Nige doesnt want to move his kids who have just started school.

He's not coming to Palace. End of story.

Good point, no-one ever thinks of these things when they post. The bloke is nearing the end of his career, he's on good money and his family are settled

I'd love it, just love it.

But I doubt it would happen, especially seeing as we've signed Cedric B.

There's more chance of him signing on loan for a club like Barnsley or Bradford, someone in the local area, than us.

Doubt we could afford his wages and what with Leeds being skint too, they're hardly likely to do a deal with us on this. Also as someone else pointed out, if he's settled and his family are young he won't want to move.

i would love him to come back in any role at the club! but its never going to happen to be honest.

I know a man who does, plus don't forget some of his family live in my town.
It is very unlikely Nigel will move down south on loan. My source states that he will not go on loan anywhere south of Birmingham.

Kolinko = never playing again apparently.

Big Nige = surplus to requirement at a club needing to slash wage bill.

Need I say more????

Nige was offered to Liverpool to try and stop Woodgate leaving, it could happen, but probably won't.

I think this description applies to both clubs though. No way we would take on such a high earner in the current climate.
I think it would be more likely that we see Nik the Greek come back on loan.

You're right it won't - the transfer window closing stops loans as well.

Nik the Greek won't come back. The only reason he went back and we signed Berthelin was that we had had him on loan for the maximum time we could in one season (except where a long loan is agreed up front). We could have borrowed him for 6 months if we'd done it at the time, but there are limits how often loans can be extended.

Picture the scene. The jigsaw all falling into place. Kolinko calls the club's bluff and gets his marching orders after months of unrest. But what's that? Nigel Martyn keeping the bench warm at Leeds? Coming toward sthe end of his contract? Looking for a return down south for his swansong years?

No, only in storybooks and fairytales I hear you say! Dreams can come true Simon - make the dream a reality and thousands of Palace fans happy again! :)

I understand that Nigel and his family are well esconsed in Yorkshire and I would NOT have thought that they would wish to be up-rooted for a return to the London area.

Apparently it doesn't stop loans of Premiership players outside the Premiership - my mistake.

Still won't happen though. Leeds need the cover apart from anything else.

Stop these fvcking pointless threads.

Nigel is not coming to Palace - live with it.

How many times does he have to say that he's not moving as his kids have started school and its his duty not to unsettle them?

He isnt coming back to South London for the forseeable.
