Super Wayne, Super Wayne, running down the wing
Super Wayne, Super Wayne, with 10 other men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Super Wayne, Super Wayne, Super Wayne

He called the greatest players to a tavern on the green
They vowed to help the people of our club
They handled all the troubles on the sacred turf
And still found plenty of time to sing

He came to Selhurst Park with a feather in his cap
A player never looking for a fight
His shot was always ready, and he kept his crosses sharp.
He used them to play for what was right.

With Steve Kember and Little Johnson they had a roguish look,
They did the deed the others wouldn't dare.
He captured all the fan's hearts that the other players yet hadn't,
And rescued many a fair loses.

Super Wayne, Super Wayne, running down the wing
Super Wayne, Super Wayne, with 10 other men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Super Wayne, Super Wayne, Super Wayne

First was Dele... :)

Second was AJ...

Darren Powell is very quick. I think AJ is the quickest but I have a feeling Powell is up there alongside him.

Super Wayne, Super Wayne, Super Wayne Perhaps a few songs like this might get the players going on a Tuesday night!?

I've got that stuck in my head now... :D

I'm going to throw a little controversy into this debate. Are we talking about who is the fastest or who is the quickest? Powell may well win over 100m but I'd say Wayne has the best acceleration.

If we take leg length to speed ratio, Wayne has to be the fastest.

Exactly. he has the fastest legs for sure, but as they're like mine, ie barely big enough to stand up on, he does get easily outpaced by players with normal size limbs.

... so at next year's Olympics the Gold in the 100m will go not to the guy who wins, but to one with the best leg length to speed ratio?

Add weight too and it should be fair.

Wayne and AJ are both bloody quick over a short distance....I wouldn't want to have to pick a winner there.

Darren Powell doesn't look as fast as he's about twice their combined size but his strides really do "Eat the ground up".

Can we drop Shipps and play Big Daz up front? ;)

Particularly if you add "flicking one leg over the ball" to the test.

I don't know about now but it used to be Steve Bruce which was backed up by the speed he left Palace when a better offer came along. After him it was our friend Julian who showed a great turn of pace when his contract run out and he has apparantly been spotted in Yorkshire, South London and finally Lancashire trying to sell his services. 'You can get quicker than an unfit winger, he is not the boy to trust!'

Sorry not to continue all the jokes but I'm just not very funny. AJ, Wayne are fastest. Then there are a lot of players with similar pace - Black, Freedman, Powell, Mullins, Watson, Aki and Smith. Then there's the averagely slow players Hughes, Derry, Butterfield, Borrowdale, Fleming and Popovic. Finally the snails, Symons and Shipperley.
