I wonder if they're confusing him with another Greek player who played on trial against Brentford ?

Let's say that name again in slow motion.

I believe Tsartas has an excellent left foot and is something of a dead ball specialist. Could provide another option on the left hand side of midfield.

It if all goes wrong it could turn into somewhat of a Greek tragedy.
I need to do some work.

Who was that Alan?

Tsiartas is on a free (I said so on an excellent but ignored list of freebies I made on another thread about 3 weeks ago :() and would be a decent signing. If we get him Danze & Petit, there'll be some real competition in the middle :p

Always so fecking negative, this is really anoying me. He may still sign its just his corner taking ability will be beaten out of him. Thats why they say it takes time to adjust. Dont rule it out because he has a little talent, these problems can be overcome!

according to (sorry to quote hol i know some still dont like it but his info is ussually good) piper on HOL, we are talking to his agent but there is simular snag to the petit one in that he dosnt want a contract that will be reduced if we go down. Didn't say how resolvable this is or not, but we are talking to his agent at least. we will see, him and petit suddenly the dream pops back into mind, can we do it? can we just? hmmmmm

Problem is he would need some time to get used to the Premiership like most foreigners. Time we don't have I suspect.

My father in-law is from Athens and is a huge AEK fan. He said that Tsartas was their most gifted player but had problems with the club management.

Back in the summer there was an interesting piece put on here in which Karren Brady looked at the likely pitfalls to be faced by the promoted clubs.

If I remember it rightly, she said Birmingham began with the policy of trying to link contracts to which division the club was in etc., but that they came fairly quickly to the conclusion that they would never recruit top quality players that way. By mid-season, they changed tack.

I wish we'd learnt that lesson without having to go through the process ourselves.

What?

Sign him and Petit and out mifield will suddenly become VERY strong. They are bothe good midfielders who would look comfortable in a top 10 side!

We are talking about a Euro 2000 winner and a Euro 2004 winner coming to Palace and people think they are not worth it. Just as well Ronaldinho isn't coming then!

No, he would arrive at the selsdon park hotel, be met by boos and jeers, keep the subs bench warm, he just wouldn't fit into our style of play and after 2 months, SJ would class him as a big time charlie and the biggest mistake of his tenure as chairman.

And his first name is Vassilis and he's a midfielder and he also played for AEK. Either Alan or the papers has clearly got confused.

I had a look on HOL as I wanted to know what their info was?
found this,
Euro 2004 preview:
10-Vassilis Tsartas (AEK Athens) Born: 12.11.72 Caps: 62; Goals: 11. The experienced, elegant left-footer can destroy defences with his pin-point passing as he did against Spain when his cross set up Charisteas for the equaliser. But with plenty of talent in midfield, Tsartas has struggled to keep his starting place.

His club goals to games ration is impressive as well, so I am pretty excited about this prospect, as well as the Petit possibility.
That is as long as it is okay with a certain morally superior member;)

I still think both contract glitches are resolvable, both want to play for us otherwise they wouldn't be in talks and I don't blame either of them trying to get the best deals they can.
I know we shoot ourselves in the foot often and we can get more negativity on here than an Antartic winter but ID knows the position and I'm sure we have learnt from the transfer pit falls of August. Also before people rant on about agent fees and Cahill even people who talked to his family said he was never coming to us and already knew of Everton's interest. So lets cheer up until we all manage to make :clown: of ourselves again:hi:
Tarta is a good player and I cannot reveal details of my sauce

Well said, this is like the summer when Kluivert was mention and people were saying he wasn't good enough. I know we need to stick within a budget but we need beter players to stay up.

I remember the article. I think the point she was making was that it was a sensible policy which worked well for them in their first season, but that as Birmingham have moved onwards any upwards they soon realised that the genuinely proven stars they needed would not agree. So, a player like Robbie Savage would be unlikely to agree as he expects to play for a Premiership team (and knows that if it's not Birmingham he can sign for another team which will, i.e. Everton), but a player like Morrison or Cisse would be more likely to agree on the basis that Birmingham might be the only Premiership team in for them, and it might be the shot they want at the big time.

So it might work well to start with, but if a club wants to move on and up the Premiership it can't last.

I would have thought this Greek guy would consider himself to be 'Premiership class' having a Euro 04 winners medal to his name.

There's a thread on it. He's their second choice right winger behind Stellios I believe.

It makes sense that we would sign him, to cover the other wing, and we do seem to sign foriegners in twos.
