Apparantly, we are after Chris Armstrong, who is a left back from Dowie's days at Oldham. Last I heard, he was at Sheffield Utd, but I have no idea how he has got on there.

So looks like a left back is on the cards then.

he's not a bad player form what i've heard. but how much truth there is in this is another matter - sounds like another "used to play for dowie therefore he is a palace target" thread. would be happy to see him sign though

SHEFFIELD UNITED NEWS

ARMSTRONG FUTURE ON THE LINE
Sheffield United defender Chris Armstrong has been forced to consider the prospect of quitting the game due to a chronic knee injury.

The 22-year-old full-back has made just 13 first-team appearances since the Blades paid 100,000 to Oldham for the former England Under-20 international in the summer of 2003.

Armstrong, sidelined with a persistent knee problem since November 2003, is to consult a leading expert in America to determine whether he can resume his promising career.

"Chris does have a problem and that will lead to some decisions being made, possibly around Christmas," said boss Neil Warnock.

"He still has pain and it may be whether or not he can put up with that. You've also got to consider his long-term health.

"Everyone here wants what is best for him and we'll give him every possible help and support. He'll be seeing another specialist to see what can be done. There's a way to go yet," he told the Sheffield Star.

No offence Mr Dowie but please stop buying players you had at Oldham because they are not exactly that much better than the players we already have
