View Full Version : Sign Mutu

Ok may seem like a bit radical but i think we should be looking at the possibilities of signing Mutu.

He is likely to get a ban between 6 - 8 months so will miss the rest of this season so no-one islikely to offer him a contract. On that basis we could offer him a minimal wage from now until teh ban ends at which point it would increase. I would have many clauses in there including his rehab sessions which he has already started.

It shoudl appeal to him as he will need to earn some money between now and the end of his ban and also needs to be training properly. If we stay in the premiership then next season we would have a player in our squad who is fully fit, has a point to prove and was worth 16m just 15 months ago.

Nice idea, don't know about paying him while he's banned and I don't think he needs the money during that time.
Plus unless we qualify for Europe I think its slightly unrealistic to think he would consider signing for us.

Behave Gonzo. He has a terrible attitude and would not last 10 minutes under ID & JH tough training regime. He would want fag breaks!!

Great Plan would like to see it happen but can't see it happening!!

I would love him at Palace, but his wages would be v. high wouldn't they ?

I also reckon he probably wouldn't be able to hack the ID work ethic!

ID would sort him out

Jasper

Come on Mutu is a player who clearly NOSE where the goal is. If he does step out of LINE then Dowie will sort him out. SNORT like he has become a bad player overnight, he just needs 6 months to get his head sorted. Still he would only play for us if we are a premier league side, cant see him dropping down to the COKE-a Cola Championship.

sorry

If he doesn't hack the ID JH training he is gona after a month and we don't pay him anything. If he does handle it he gets a 2.5k a week deal (backdated to when he started) until his ban is up when it would go up (we would know if we have stayed up)

If he does not train with a club his fitness will disappear and trials with clubs will be hard next summer. He would probably struggle to find a club next summer with European aspirations. He is now settled in London so may want to stay.

You only find out if you ask and i think it would be interesting for Palace to sit down and talk to him about it. If next season we had a fully fit fully motivated (the ID and JH effect) Mutu then we would be quids in! if not we would not have lost much at all!

Wages to high, not got Dowie's work ethic, damaged goods, no chance.

Probably best not to blow all our money on his wages though.

Couple of grand a week is hardly blowing money away though is it. Yes he would want wages that were a lot higher if he was playing but he will take anything at the moment i would have thought.

Who will take a look at him when his ban ends? Where did Bosnch go to, first time i saw him playing after his ban was on teh TV the other week in The Match - people suggested we should sign him afterhe had finished the ban.

This is just pre-empting any other offers and making sure you have a fully fit player come next pre season. If he can't hack it we coud even put a clause in where he owes us teh money if he walks away or fails to achieve certain targets. Obviously one of which is if he goes back onteh Coke he is histiry and we get any money we have paid him back!

If Palace could get the Mutu that started off at Chelsea then, I dont think anyone would say NO!

Mutu's a good footballer, and has a good eye for goal, would be a massive signing, although could'nt see it happening myself!

AndyStreet

He would leave many a defender for dust though.

Although I'm worried about the ice cold reception he'd get from Palace fans.

Not for me. We don't know what the other forwards can do yet as they keep geeting injured/sent off. Wait and see what happens there. In any evnt Mutu is a loose cannon who I don't believe would bring a positive influence to this club.

the biggest assets we've got at the moment are the team spirit, work ethic, togetherness (to quote Popovic) and the fact that (maybe AJ apart ?!!) we don't have any big name superstars in our team who demand to be centre of attention.

we don't need some over-paid prima donna druggie like Mutu upsetting the apple-cart whether its now or when his ban ends. steer well clear.

plus after his good start he was hardly banging them in for Chelsea last season was he !

Would cost too much in wages and more likely to go to Italy or someone like Galatasaray in my view.

The Chelsea player I'd like us to bid for would be Carlton Cole....

Ah so it was all down to him? Maybe it was, maybe not, what is undoubted it he has a lot of talent and canplay at the highest level - he had a good start for chelsea and then slipped a bit? Scott Parker? Same situation.

We have had only 2 players found to have taken cocaine been banned and sacked in the top flight in the past few years - what was teh common denominator?

Knowing the player though, we'd have to WRAP him in cotton wool. He'd probably want a top batchelor pad in TOOTING and and the GEAR that goes with it. All the time, Palace RACK UP a huge wage bill

Brave Kevin. Foolhardy some might say.

Mutu will probably garner "more appealing" offers than Palace. Even though he's been shamed I think his past scoring record will land him a cozy job in Italy or Spain. I don't see why Mutu would want to remain in England after this scandal.

If he were to come to Palace he'd probably be quite a strain on our wage bill and seems like a bit of a head case. He can score goals by the boatload, but is he worth the risk? ID could maybe succeed in setting him straight but I think Mutu wants to go to a bigger club

Jasper
04-11-2004, 01:53 PM
Cant see how he would fit in with our style of play. If we played Mutu up front on his own he wouldn't get a sniff at goal.

I'm sure I read somewhere the other day that Arsene Wenger was keen to offer him a chance to get his career going again and sort him out. Still a very good player.

Personally I think he takes too much COKE and will be a liability to the team, especially when there are managers abroad sending out scouts to have a NOSE at his HABBITS of scoring SCORING....bollocks to this it's not funny now. Kev and Andy street (wearing a white thong now) have spoiled it.

What a poinrless thread this is. He is banned for 8 months and will, proably, end up in a rehab. clinic like Paul Merson. Should have been banned for longer as should Ferdinand and Bosnich. No time for druggies in football.

Exactly would be worth a risk, wont get the same sort of wage as he was on at Chelsea. Still young everyone makes mistakes, great talent sign him. I agree though he is more likely to go elswhere he will have loads of takers.
