I just read on a swedish football-forum that AIK“s central midfielder Derek Boateng is on trial at the club. Anyone who can confirm/deny this?

All i know about him is that he came to sweden with a great reputation but hardly impressed here this year when AIK was relegated.

Wigan Athletic
MiddlesbroughPromotion chasing Wigan Athletic have handed a trial to Ghana international Derek Boateng.

The former Panathinaikos midfielder is currently with AIK Solna, but they have suffered relegation and are now due to lose a host of their star names.

Boateng arrived at the club in 2003 after his spending most of his career in Greece plying his trade for OFI Crete, Kalamata and Pana.

He is now in England discussing possible deals with two English clubs - one known to be Wigan.

The other is rumoured to be Middlesbrough - who have known about the player for quite a while.

Boateng even had a trial at Boro in 2003 - but he failed to win a deal at that point and he moved to Sweden.

The former African Young Player of the Year is now attempting to secure a move to England.

"Derek is in England, where two clubs are interested." AIK sports director Peter Kisfaludy told Sportbladet.

Never heard of him. Is he a relation of Boro's George?

Middlesbrough nearly bought him for big bucks (7 million or something mental like that) back in the days of 12 million for Tore Andre Flo.

Don't think he is a relation as George is a Dutchy, but it is possible I suppose.

God knows! You'd struggle to get £120,000 for a player of his *ahem* 'qualities' these days. And that wasn't the end of it, he then went to Sunderland for over 8 million!!!
