This makes the home game against Blackburn look a piece of piss, and we still couldn't win.

i have a good feeling about this one . However I've had a good feeling about all our games!!!

14-12-2004, 03:04 PM
We will win.

Why you may ask?

Because we are better than them??? No!
Because we are playing well at the moment??? No!
Because they have £12m strikers who can't get on the bench??? No!
Because they will have 67000 cheering them on???No!

Because we have been playing rubbish for a couple of weeks, the team seems short of legs and confidence, half the fans have given up and the other half are moaning but at the end of the day we will win because..................IT WOULD BE TYPICAL PALACE!!!!

I have to work with a couple of Man U fans... well one is the wife of a ManU fan. Anyway we've been discussing the possible outcome on Saturday and here's my take.

If we assume that at the beginning of the season Iain Dowie had determined that there would be games where we should get points , and some where we probably wouldn't, he would surely have put this fixture in the no-hope category.

So I reckon it could be that Mr Dowie will take this opportunity to make some big changes and try some different tactics/formation.He may play some of the reserves- hell why not play the whole reserve team- if you're not expecting any points there's nothing to lose. Also of course, if you are not expecting anything from this game why risk getting your best players injured and therefore out of action for upcomming games where we should get points. Also at the Blackburn post match press conference he said that he picks the formation to suit the players, not the other way round. So if he starts with the reserves he could play 4-4-2. Also of course, as with the Charlton cup tie, the reserves will be eager to put on a good show to prove what they can do and therefore be considered for a first team start. So they could spring a few surprises.

Certainly if we play at Old Trafford like we have against Blackburn and Charlton at home recently we're doomed.

Secondly, even if we play with our usual starting 11, we do seem to raise our game for the "big" clubs", and bizarrely put on a poor show for those games where we are expected to pick up some points. We could have easily won against Arsenal and got a draw at Anfield, scoring two goals without AJ actually playing, so who's to say an away match at Old Trafford is a write off?

The third thing to consider is that like all clubs Man U will have had Palace "watched" over the past couple of games, and Ferguson will have been briefed on how we play. What better surprise than to play a team that they haven't seen, and with different tactics/formation.
You know what... the more I think about this the more I think 3 points are already in the bag!

I may well be wrong, but on what basis are people saying we are going to be thumped. Is VanHorsearoy back? If not, they have no consistent scorer. A strange statement but neither Rooney nor Smith are prolific - they do have a few other qualities I have to admit. And their midfield is as limp as ours currently. And they can be sloppy at the back.

Hm. I became progressively less convinced of my own words as I went along there.

2-1 to us. AJ/Kollka, some twat for them. Usual 67K crowd of mildly interested onlookers and scandanavians on a xmas weekend.

15-12-2004, 02:01 PM
This is Old Trafford!
And floodlights!
This should lift our players in a Cup-tie style while ManU face intense pressure to catch-up at the top of the table.
Anything could happen from right old tonking thru to daylight robbery.

For me, though, a noble draw from 0-2 down.

ManUtd 2 (Rooney, Keane)
Palace 2 (Kaviedes, Lakis)

Two new scorers for us, AJ to miss another pen, and Lakis to finally sink a sitter for a change.

A certain Mr. I Dowie.

And yes, he will try something different tomorrow. Whatever the score, it will not be boring.

It would be TYPICAL Palace to get a result from a game like this. Lose a load then win against one of the top sides. There's plenty backing us for this reason. But Man U... we're talking about different class. Brave draw here is as good as a win for us.

I keep trying to tell myself we will lose, and would really be pleased if we got a draw, but my crystal ball keeps saying we will win!! The logic is that if Fulham can draw with ManU and we can beat Fulham, then we should win!
So, taking the advice, the final result will be Manchester United 1 - Crystal Palace 3
ManU's goal would have to come from Rooney, whilst on target for Palace will be AJ, Joonas and Ben Watson.
