We bidded 800K for the lad in the summer, and rumours around Stoke City suggest we are being linked with a 1M move for him.

is this not the same story rehashed? c_block do you know if he is any good? isn't he a right-back?

oh and sorry - too many questions!

Ex-Arsenal lad, rated very highly at Stoke City. The bid was accepted in the summer but he was not intrestred in making the move. He can play in defence and midfield.

PS Can Mod's add the word "Move" to the title. Ta.

If he didn't want to move in the summer, it would be unlikely he would move now, I'd guess. He'd also be around 4th or 5th choice for centre back, and I don't think we should be going after targets that aren't any improvement in what we already have.

he has played right back all season.

What about Boycie and Butts. Less we played him at right and moved Boyce to the centre

I think his preferred position is as a defensive midfielder - which is where he played for Arsenal.

Asked a mate with a season ticket at Stoke, I think it is just a rehash but...

He's plays right-back, but would prefer to play centre midfield. He is very highly rated at Stoke, they say he is clearly too good for them, but was concerned when they said 'he is definitely one of the 3 best players at the club'. And 1m? Jog on...

According to the latest Sky Sports Football Yearbook his name is:
John Halls (Stoke also have Laurence Hall, a forward and Marcus
Hall, like John, another defender!).
JOHN HALLS, born Islington 14.2.82, was with Arsenal from 2001/4,
without making a League debut for them, but he did play 6 games
for Colchester on loan in 01/02. He then moved to Stoke in 03/04.
playing 34 games in Div.1 (at right back?).

Sounds very versatile, would add to the depth of our squad, possibly back up to Aki?

Not more padding. We need quality. Wud rather we bought one player for 4m than 4 players for 1m.

He's a very good player, but if there is a single position in the squad where we have genuine strength in depth, it's at right back. Thus he'd be a strange signing.

It might make my brother more sympathetic to the Palace cause as he's called John Hall. His brain works like that

Stoke fan here, Johnny Halls is my favourite player i think he is top class and probably one of the 4 best English Right-Backs. I really don't want him to go and i personally hadn't heard anything about this transfer until it was mentioned today. He's quite an attacking full back and can beat a player with ease. Not as good in the defensive department but he's learning.

By the way, Eustace and Halls BOTH now have girly haircuts...Halls has a headband and Eustace (Afroman) scored against you last year, he now has a ponytail as well.

Hope you do well this season anyway and good luck for the future (whether it's with Hallsy or not).

Cheers

VerybigEd,

Greetings and salutations and of course a warm welcome to the 'Good Ship BBS'.

Your kind words are most appreciated and I would like to reciprocate these sentiments and wish 'Stoke' the very best of 'British' in their quest for promotion to the hallowed land of the Premiership.

Looks like Stoke's interested in Zamora

re: halls - palace?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could the transfer activity be linked to the sale of JH....putting out the positive spin before the bad news of his departure. Maybe too the incoming Zamora's cost will be paid out of the income from Palace...hence the delay

Also the recall of Wilkinson from Scotland to provide further cover with young Buxton for the departing Halls/Dubes

Eustace looked like a bollock on legs! he got right on my nerves when we played them last year, he caused us a few problems...

we dont need any signings from stoke, though - no-one there has the quality we need.

My thoughts entirely. Butts looked superb against Portsmouth and Spurs. Think we should be looking for a left back, as Granville does not inspire me with confidence.

He was clearly a cut above the rest of his team mates when Stoke City came to Palace last season. He actually set up two goals for City. It takes a good player to shine when you are tonked 6-3. A quality addition to the squad.

no. We can't take chances now, we need to get players in with proven premiership experience to stand any chance of staying up.

No. I understand its for 1.2m, but we'll have to wait and see.

Sankofa dislocated his knee about three weeks ago and will be out for most of 2005.

A good player, but not convinced he'd be any better than Butterfield (or Boyce for that matter). I echo the thoughts of those who believe that we should be looking for left-sided fullbacks, and not rightbacks.
