Who needs to spend money to survive? According to this our first team cost less than our reserve team, and almost half the first team cost is made up of one defender! One first team for less than the cost of one Clinton Morrison.

First Team:

Kiraly - free
Boyce - free
Popovic - free
Hall - 1.5M
Granville - 500k
Routledge - free
Riilhilarti - 200k
Hughes - free
Watson - free
Kolkka - 500k
Johnson - 750k

Total transfer cost = 3.45M

Reserves:

Speroni - 550k
Butterfield - free
Hudson - 550k
Sorondo - loan*
Leigertwood - 125k
Black - 500k
Derry - 400k
Soares - free
Kaviedes - loan*
Freedman - 800k
Torghelle - 750k

Total transfer cost = 3.675M

*no assumed transfer/loan cost (other than wages) for loan players

Aki only cost 150K, cheap at half the price.

I thought there was a fee for Popovic? Not suggesting it was much though..

Tomy Black was 250K I think, which is funny because by chance that is exactly 250k more than he is worth ;)

Black and Gray came for a joint fee of 1M, Poppa's price was nearing 1M i remember reading at the time but i could be wrong, Kolkka and torghelle were 350,00 each i think, but again, could be wrong

Correct on Black & Gray. Popovic was a free transfer from some Japanese league team, Kolkka was an undisclosed signing but most seemed to suggest it was 500k, and Torghelle was 750k as originally posted.

Don't know what the point of your thread is but I think the point is that the 1st team squad would be worth double that now in Johnson alone, whilst the reserve squad does look expensivley assembled.

Though with the reserves what price can you put on the value of freedman and derry last year? and whilst they are reserves they are in fact our squad.

If we stay up either way it is all very very cheap at the price!

My general point was that sometimes it's not the players that you expect that make the big differences, and sometimes there is no need to look for expensive transfers when you have strong youngsters coming through that may be capable of taking their opportunity. For me the most enjoyable part of watching Palace (or any football team) is watching young promising players given their chance and take it with both hands.

I also thought that the fact that the reserve team cost more money to assemble was rather ironic, and worth mentioning.

I dunno where those prices came from.
