View Full Version : Seth Johnson

16-12-2004, 03:26 PM
Just reminded by a comment in the Andy Johnson thread, I wondered if Seth Johnson might be a viable target for Dowie in January? He's certainly not set the world alight at Leeds, having been plagued by injuries, but he was a quality player at Derby before Leeds paid £7M for him - even earning one or two England caps. With his reputedly huge contract surely coming to an end shortly, perhaps Leeds would be prepared to let him leave on a free to ease their problems, and Johnson will certainly not see any other offers around the level of his current salary.

Any thoughts?

Very ugly man. Might fit in well. Left footed too. Depending on salary requirements might be worth a look.

He's a left sided player as well. A young, attacking, England under 21 left back, would we be interested if the deal is right?? F**K YES!!

He would be good - as long as we don't end up paying 38k a week... ;)

He's been out injured all season after yet another long-term knee injury and isn't expected back until the end of January.

What ever happened to Eric Bakke, we were linke to him in the summer.

He was on 60/70k a week at leeds, in an interview after their financial state hit the news he said he was on 4k a week at Derby and would have accepted 8k! A club run well.

16-12-2004, 05:22 PM
I heard that as well. He tells his agent hell accept 8k, agent says - hold on son, leeds are paying silly money, lets ask for 15k. Agent goes into to negotiate, Risdale says "how about 35k?"....

Same situation as Johnson. Long-term injured. As with Johnson, this is also his second major injury aswell.

He's a dirty player and I would much rather see other players come in before him

I heard he was on 36k a week at leeds, would be good if he gets fit and is paid a max of 8k.

He's a midfielder, not a left back

Johnson and Bakke are potentially the best players in our team, but they're always bloody injured. I doubt he'll be going anywhere until he's back in first team action for Leeds, but he is a very good player so if he gets over his injuries then I have no doubt a premiership team will go for him in the summer. Good left footed players are at a premium after all. He's been a waste of money though, with all his injuries, so approach with caution.

It's funny though. All the players left in the team who could even loosely be described as premiership quality are either on the sick list (Bakke, Johnson, Radebe), playing badly (Kelly), or out on loan (Duberry). It's no wonder we're struggling. But go on, give us £8m for Johnson. Please.

Doesnít sound to dissimilar to noades & Valerian Ismael
Didnít it go along the lines off:

Agent/club: Valerian Ismael is interested in the move to the English premier league, we have already had a substantial bid from another premier league team (Newcastle)

Noades (Obviously not realising that Newcastle have only offered 400k) intervenes, how about 2.75m? does that take your fancy

Agent/club: Done!

Nicky - the story you tell about Ridsdale and Johnson's salary is apochryphal. This is according to both parties themselves. They were interviewed on Radio Live Five. I'm not great with figures but I'm sure said he was on about £400k basic for the season.

I wouldn't buy Seth Johnson , not because he isn't good enough . He is a left footer which would certainly be useful but he is injury prone and unlikely to play enough games for Palace.

Sounds like Leeds would be willing to dump him if he is on that sort of money. Although would he want to take a wage cut to play for us. It would be stoopid to pay him that sort of money.

19-12-2004, 08:40 PM
the board are determined to dump all the high earners over the new year, so that probably means curtains for Johnson, Bakke, Kelly among others. Someone will get them, Villa look likely to sign Gary Kelly for a start.

if the deal is right, why not, but dont push the boat out to get him
