Have anyone heard which cp-player is on his way to norwegian club Viking on a loan? The same player was on his way to the same club summer 04..

My guess would be Sandor Torghelle.

the same sandor torghelle who was being apparently watched by Roma and just got back into the first team squad. doubt it.

Danny Butterfield according to Norwegian newspapers..
(Roy Hodgson is there manager..)

If there's any truth in a move for butterfield I think it's completely short sighted given his last couple of run outs.

Butterfield had a poor game against fulham to his high standards...would be rediculous for him to leave though. we need him - perhaps gary neville can finally be given the boot from international football!!

No! Not Butters! :(

Newspapers aren't sure which player it is, but it is one who has played the last three and who Viking tried to get on loan in the summer. Butterfield was injured then, wasn't he?

Why would Viking want an English player? I know that sounds silly, but how many first squad English players for English sides go out on loan abroad?

Maybe its AJ? ;)

Kai

The article in the paper says that it is Butterfield but at the same time they say that Viking want a midfielder! It also says that Hodgson watched him against Fulham (maybe he realised then that he's a right back!).

Honestly I can't see Butters going to Viking for several reasons:

1. The Norwegian season starts in April so it would be a peculiar time to go out on loan

2. They can't afford his wages

3. Now that he's back in the Palace team why on earth move from the Premiership to the Norwegian league. If he was to go somewhere he'd probable much prefer England!

I actually think that someone like Tom Soares or Tommy Black would be the sort of player they'd be looking at, possibly even Aki as he played in Norway prior to coming to Palace.

Kai

I'm 100% sure it won't happen, for the reasons I gave above. Perhaps some of our reserve team players might be interested in going (they got Mads Timm from Man Utd last season) but no way any of our first teamers are going to be interested in this.

It would be great for a young player to play for a spell in Norway but Butterfield won't be going.

Danny Butterfield has emerged as a surprise target for Viking coach Roy Hodgson.

The Crystal Palace defender is believed to be the English-based player being pursued by the former Blackburn Rovers manager.

"We haven't got a deal yet but it is the same player we tried to loan in the summer, the last time the transfer window was open," explained Hodgson to Stavanger Aftenblad.

"I saw him play against Fulham, actually he has played the last three matches."

Palace may be reluctant to allow Butterfield to leave as Iain Dowie has been utilising his talents recently, unless there is major incoming activity at Selhurst Park this month.

The Stavanger club are seeking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.

Ah, so maybe that Viking fan was right!

I'd like to think we won't let him leave as he's been playing well (needs a rest though).

No chance in a million, Butts is 2 important to Dowie..... what if Boyce gets injured, who would cover?

Cleon

This is surely laughable! Butterfield has been fantastic for Palace over the past few years, and in my opinion is still our number 1 right back. How can Viking afford him? Or his wages? Has he shagged Mrs Dowie or something??

I thought positionally he was all over the place against Villa (granted that's the only game I've seen him in since his return). However, he will get better with more games under his belt so unless it's a bid for silly money, we should keep hold of him.

He had a good game against pompey and a reasonable 1st half at Fulham but I have to agree, I think boyce is the better player.

Liegertwood did a job against Arsenal.

I personally rate Danny as our no.1 right back, don't wanna see this happen and don't think it will

As it was presumably for the Villa players leaving him standing as they left him trailing by cutting inside??

I think he has been our best player for several seasons and certainly added to our attacking options at One Point Lane, BUT seemed much less secure at the back against Fulham and Villa than Boyce has been. Lost count of the times a rated winger looks like he's beaten Boyce only for the long leg to sneak out and win the ball.

And his first premiership games of the season - not bad going at all. He gives us more options than Boycey going forward (noticeable against Pompey) though Boycey has the edge on defensive duties.

think boyce probably needed a rest, and butts has proved what a useful player he is by playing some good football. can't see him leaving, loan or permanently, as he's too much of a valuable player to have in the squad

But he hasn't been off with an injury for months. Vs Pompey Danny was great, and his attacking, crossing and shooting were much better than Boyce (and I have been saying Boyce should keep his place so have no axe to grind). Vs Villa Danny was very poor, but I can only think that this was due to tiredness, and having seen him vs Pompey i now think he should be first choice.

I can only assume it was the Man U game that got Dowie to change him, as Boyce was terrible in it.

Dowie after the Villa game said he had recently left Boyce out of the
starting line-up to give him a rest. The player up to the ManUre
game had played 18 consecutive Premier League matches and
surely deserved a break? He certainly wasn't the only Palace
player given the run-around at Old Trafford. Having watched
a number of Palace reserve games, I haven't always been
impressed by Butterfield's performances at that level,
but he has shown recent improvement and has deserved his
recent run in the first team.
Think Palace should hold on to Boyce and Butterfield, as they
have shown they are both capable of playing in the Premier
League.

A small point for those criticising Danny's performance against Villa - the occasions when Barry got free down the Villa left to put a cross in tended to be when Villa were counter-attacking and if you watched you would have seen two central midfielders running to support Angel each time, Danny was pulled inside by our own centre backs shouting at him to pick one of them up as our own midfield were too far away.

I'm not saying his performance was perfect, but he did what needed to be done, and I find it hard to understand people getting on defenders backs when the back 5 got another nice clean sheet bonus this week.
