Now here is a defender who could do the business for us, A london guy who's strong, quick and reads the game excellent(well at least better than Pops) guess the only thing against him is his age -30yrs though he could do more than a job for us and we could get him on the cheap - Go on Iain you know it makes sense!:p

No Thanks. We have enough centre back anyway and Richards is no better than Popovic, and not even in Fitz Hall's league

Richards was on the fringes of the england set up before his move to spurs.

When he was at Southampton he was awesome so you have to question why things went wrong at Spurs, if dowie can recapture his better form he is better than any defender we presently have at the club!

Icarus

You can not be serious that Pops is better than Richards? If we can get him on the cheap even on loan for the rest of the season then we would be almost leakproof at the back, Just think of it!

Absolutely agree. He was awesome for Saints before his move. Massive.

The Tottenham effect took over, that's what when wrong with him. As a professional football the only other club thatís more likely to turn you from a star player to a scrap heap challenge entry is Middlesbrough. They eat up good players and chuck em out as rejects like nobody else.

Not for me our priorities lay in other areas,we have more than enough cover especially as we also have Sorondo who I think could become first choice at the back with Hall.

This is total and absolute garbage. Since moving from Southampton to Spurs, Richards has been a liability and there is no way we want someone who is not even good enough to get in the Spurs team. Added to which, we have Popoivic, Hall, Huson, Liegertwood and Powell so why why why, would we want another central defender - unless ir was Sol campbell, of course!!!

Leakproof?

I'm thinking of it and I am certain we would not be the least bit 'leakproof'

He was very good and unfortunately tottenham have ruined him. For two years he has been hopeless but he is thirty now and do we really want to take a gamble on him when are quite well off in that area anyway? I don't think so.

Well I for one will be keeping my fingers crossed i'm tired of seeing Pops with that stupid 'was I supposed to be marking him?' expression on his face, He just doesn't look comfortable and with Richards providing premiership experience he may give stabilty at the back and/or Pops the much needed kick up the backside he so despertately needs!

Agree that Pops was caught out a few times but if you are going to drop Pops, bring in Hudson, although I think that the Pops and Hall partbership will flourish, given a few more games to eatablish a better understanding. He is far better than Dean Richards who was voted one of the worst buys ever by Spurs fans.

I would be pretty happy with that.

Both players can hit a pass, are quick, strong, athletic and pretty good in the air.
The only thing I would say about Leigertwood is that he sometimes loses his composure but that can be worked on.

I've said this before, but I think Leigertwood's best position might just be in midfield.

I hate to upset the party but there is no way that Richards is better than Pops and would be a complete waste of money. Agreed he did a good job for Southampton but a combination of loss of form and injuries mean he is not capable of getting in a Tottenham side that are leaking goals alarmingly. If he cannot get in the Spurs team then there is no way we want him.

Not going to labour the point though a fit Dean Richards has to be better than Pops. The penalty against 'Pool is just one of a catalogue of errors made by Pops this season - Baros wasn't even going anywhere, Pops has no discipline, out of his depth and a liability to Palace. I really do shudder when he's near the ball!

Good luck Dean hope it all works out:p

Lets hope he is ok and if not that he makes a full recovery:

12:45 15Nov2004 RTRS-Soccer-Tottenham defender Richards awaits brain scan results

LONDON, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur defender Dean Richards faces an anxious wait to find out if he has a tumour after a scan showed an "abnormality on the brain".
The 30-year-old, who has not played for six months, expects to hear the results of a second brain scan on Wednesday.
"I'm waiting for this week's results before jumping to any conclusions," he was quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard newspaper on Monday.
"I'm nervous but that is only human. I'm sure something as serious as this would affect anyone. And I certainly know how serious it could be for me."
Spurs said on their official website: "The club continues to support Dean in every possible way".
Bradford-born Richards started out with his home town club in 1990 before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1995. He joined Southampton in 1999 before being brought to Tottenham by his former Saints boss Glenn Hoddle in September 2001 for eight million pounds ($14.82 million).
Last week former Liverpool and England captain Emlyn Hughes died of cancer aged 57 after having surgery for a brain tumour in August 2003.

Richards gets all-clear

Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham defender Dean Richards has breathed a sigh of relief after test results showed he is unlikely to have a brain tumour.

Richards had been fearing for his professional career after revealing over the weekend that he had an abnormality on the brain.

Well at least he's fine though this must have affected his mental state. Hope he's back playing soon.

Great news but thought this would be the case as I couldn't see the point in keeping this to himself for months and then doing an interview with a Sunday paper days before the results, highlighting a possible life threatening illness. Hope he now gets his career back on track but not at Selhurst Park.

Anyway, shouldn't whoever "runs" the ball boys give them some basic training.

1) You only need 1 ball on the pitch at a time

The amount of times ball boys have cocked up and thrown a ball on when there is already is one, is gradually increasing every game.

Surely that is how a rumour emerges... if you don't like it then ignore it rather than giving someone grief about passing on a bit of info they have heard (whether it is true or false).

Now here is a defender who could do the business for us, A london guy who's strong, quick and reads the game excellent(well at least better than Pops) guess the only thing against him is his age -30yrs though he could do more than a job for us and we could get him on the cheap - Go on Iain you know it makes sense!:p

I've said this before, but I think Leigertwood's best position might just be in midfield.

I've got friends who have season tickets at Spurs and they reckon he has the worst touch of any defender they can remember, so no thanks.

I've never met a Spurs fan who has a clue about football. I had several many years ago but they are such a woefully arrogant and aggresive bunch i refuse to have anything to do with them. So Richards has gone up in my esteem but whilst I think he would be a good signing I think we need midfield cohesion and drivers and so does EVERY other damned club, even the ones with them already.
