Jairo Riedewald
Highest pass completion rate in the dutch premier league last year i think they said, 92% likes to pass forward and can dribble with the ball. be interesting to see what sakhos pass completion rate was at us.
|
Be interesting to see whether he plays in the back three or in midfield

Which by the sounds of it we might. Seems like his preference is to be in midfield, would be interesting next to Luka. But would be worried about the creativity in the team. |
A massive fundemental part of the puzzle put in here with Riedewald, he'll be that left center back who has the intelligence to get into good positions to receive the ball and allow the more creative outlets a better base in order to start our attacks.
I think this will be an incredible signing. |
Sort of signing you make when you've got a plan. A good sign, I think.

If we did sign another left sided CB then Jairo would be an excellent, versatile option from the bench. |

Could he be cheese and onion to Sakho's salt and vinegar?

Song for him....just repeating his first name to the high-ho tune of the seven dwarfs.

Good. Welcome Jairo. COYP!

It's certainly an interesting signing and I think he'll go straight into the team. None of this one for the future types.
|
I think our first team will look something like:
Adrian Chambers/Tomkins. Tomkins/Dann. Riedeweld New. Luka. RLC. PVA/Schlupp Cabaye Zaha. Benteke Or: Adrian Chambers. Dann/Tomkins. BMI Luka Cabaye. RLC Riedeweld Zaha. Benteke. Townsend |

Unless riedeweld is being bought as one of the 3 centre backs and you simply play Luka, RLC and Cabaye as the three and push puncheon up as one of the front 3 and drop Townsend

A back three (if that is FDB's plan) of Riedewald, Tomkins and AN Other (Dann or Chambers, perhaps) would be splendid.
Riedewald sounds great on paper, be great if it's the case in the Premier League too. |
Oh Jairo...
|
New Keeper Chambers -------- Tomkins --------- Riedewald V D Weil ------ Luka --------- Cabaye ----------- Schlupp Townsend -------- Benteke ------- Zaha Subs: Hennessey, Ward, Dann, PVA, Puncheon, RLC, Wickham/New Striker Reserves: Speroni, Souare, Kelly, Delaney, McArthur, Williams, Sako, Kaikai, Dreher Four signings needed by my calculations. If the signings in bold come off our team is starting to look seriously strong. |

Agree with this.. maybe another attacking midfielder aswel |
I don't see the point of keeping Delaney or Williams TBH.
Let alone Mutch and Lee. |
Quote:
The Striker is key for me. Who can we get? Although Sako has never really been given a chance. |

|
Watching his match film on youtube, the biggest thing that stands out besides his great passing is his football IQ. He is always thinking one step ahead before he gets the ball. He may be exposed for pace at times, but I think he will be a huge addition.

Only 3 caps? It isn't as though Holland are good right now either.
|
Looks good but aas you said it's still 4 (twice the players in so far) to go. The striker is the key, as a first 11 we are already looking ok with what we have but if Benteke got an injury we would be seriously up the Gary!

Van Dijk only 12. They're not bad players. Holland have a lot of options at the back, it's further forward where they struggle. |

Its ok saying he can pass but does anyone know what his defending is like?

93 games for Ajax, 3 caps for Holland, an appearance in the UEFA Cup Final.
And he's only 20. Let's enjoy it :p |

A lot of people getting carried away without probably ever seeing Riedewald playing, afterall he is a 20yr old with limited playing experience and none in the premiership where he will be up against players way above the quality he previously faced. To then play him in a Back Three of Chambers-Tomkins-Riedewald for me is a huge risk that could badly backfire, our strengths as a team will always be in defence, personally if it is to be a "Back Three" i would feel more comfortable if that was Tomkins-Dann-Sakho, OR ideally in a more solid Back Four of Van der Weil- Dann-Sakho-Van Arnholt.
Instead of getting Chambers for 20m to balance the outgoings, i would rather see us try and go a little further and work out a compromise fee say 23m? for Sakho a defender who is proven with us and we know works well in our setup, and played alongside Dann they could be our ROCK in the middle, with pacy overlapping FB's and then sit Luka in front of that defence would make our defence very difficult to penetrate, that should be our starting point in a new setup in my opinion. |

Promising signing but transitioning from the Dutch league to the Prem is a big step up, not many do well

Yes I recall some totally disastrous Dutch players in the Premier league like Bergkamp, Overmars, Stam, van der Sar, van Nistelorooy, van Bronckhurst, van Persie, Krul, van Dijk, Robben, Wijnaldum....

His passing is, as I said before, maybe his biggest quality. He can break lines and is immediately, for sure, Palace’s best ball playing defender. If De Boer surely wants to build up from the back, Riedewald is a true addition to the squad. If De Boer wants to play long balls to Benteke, Riedewald can do that too. Last season it seemed he was a bit lazy, but that had to do with his situation at Ajax. When he gets minutes constantly, which I think he gets at Palace, he’ll be good and develop himself to an even better defender. Due his versatility, you can say he’s quite complete. He can be stronger in one vs. one defensively, but with the likes of real PL-defenders in the team and De Boer, he’ll improve at that aspect of the game, for sure. |
Love having a everyone still ignoring the insanity of signing a £30m player with a knee problem

Apologies if this has been mentioned already.
"Riedewald joined Ajax’s youth academy at the age of 11, and progressed to make his professional debut in a KNVB Cup match against IJsselmeervogels in December 2013. His league debut came three days later against Roda JC, when he incredibly scored twice as a substitute to help Ajax record a 2-1 victory." Wouldn't it be incredible if he could replicate that on his Palace debut!! That info came from an article with lots of fascinating analysis on him (some to analyse his worth in fantasy football) and it's worth a read http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.u...iro-riedewald/ |

Looking forward to seeing him play in the Premier League - one thing I think people are jumping all over is the perceived lack of physicality in his game. I personally don't think this is much of an issue as I think we always come unstuck against those strikers with movement and who are more technical e.g. Aguero/Sanchez - I think against these types of players Jairo will shine. I think this is the positive of having 3 cbs as we can have speedier/technical players in the LCB/RCB but the general CB position (Dann/Tomkins or go in for Smalling £10mil should snap him up) will be the destroyer against the lumps in this league (Lukaku/Carroll) plus with Luka in front I am quite happy.

His first touch is amazing. I know it's only in training, but at one point on the new video he he's not even looking at the ball when he kills it dead at his feet, he's already looking to see who's in the best position for a pass - I bet he sends it with a message too. Had he been English, he'd have cost about £20m imo.
|
^ Let us give him 5-6 games:)
|
Oh Jairo!
|
Looked comfortable today. One neat clean up behind Dann who had lost his man and a lot of simple effective/efficient play. Would bet his passing stats are likely high 90's if not 100 but he was playing it simple.
Looking forward to seeing what impact he makes this year. |
I thought he had a near perfect debut, although he did keep it simple. I am very high on him and think he will be one of the most polished 20 year olds in the PL next season. His versatility will be a huge asset.
|
Looking forward to seeing Jairo.

Song suggestion (reckon it's a good 'un) - Ried-e-wald - to the tune of Wunderbar (Tempole Tudor) :p

I wonder if riedeweld would fit the sweeper role quite well. Have Palace ever played a sweeper?

Although I am not sure if the second video is evidence of good defending, as he put the clearance in an incredibly dangerous area. |
